Triumph TR6 - 72 Speedomter

Hi: I have recently had some speedometer issues that are not cable related and have spoken to West Valley Instruments in Resida California. Seems to be a knowlegable guy with decent pricing and wants the inner and outer cable to check distances as the inner on some aftermarket cables may push too hard on the inner drive of the speedo. Has anyone had some experience with this company or is there a proven repair shop that other members have used with satisfation? I could save a few dollars in shipping if the location of a repair shop was in Canada but am most interested in getting a good long time fix. Any feedback.

Thanks Trevor Stock

Hi Trevor

I wish I could be more helpful. I don't have any experience with West Valley and I am not aware of any Canadian options.

You don't elaborate on the issues but are you willing to try repairing it yourself? What are the issues? A good clock maker might be able to do a decent repair if in town.

Trevor,
My choice would be Nisonger Instruments.

Hi Michael & Doug: Thanks for the imput. I have thought about trying to repair the speedo myself but don't want to do the job 2 or 3 times just for experience, and I don't have any spare parts on hand. As far as shipping costs go California is a lot closer to Vancouver than New York so I think I'll try this guy in California for now. Any one else have imput. If I do send the pieces to the place in California I'll post the results and hopefully if the repairs are good quality it may help out someone out west here. I'll also correct myself on my first post in that I stated that the speedo problem that I have is not cable related. If the inner cable is a bit too long and pushing on the speedo drive then I guess the cable is at fault. It took 3 years for the head to screw up with aftermarket cable but how long with OEM parts??.

Again, thanks for the imput Trevor Stock

I would not suggest Doug's choice.
That company changed hands and the new owner isn't close to as customer service friendly as the last.(YRMV)
The West Valley is very good and is a suggested option.
I used

for my 6 gauges and they did good work with good contact service.
They are in MN so closer to you

Don,
Thanks for the update. Was not aware Nisonger had been sold. The work they did for me 4 years ago was/is first rate.

Doug- There has been some unsatisfactory communication lately.
So thought I'd pass it on

By the way Doug, did you and Mr Nichols hoist a couple?
DNK

Aye, Don, that we did and had a bit of conversation about why you weren't there!! Gave occasion to open a special 28 y/o Glenlivet I've been hoarding for such an opportunity. Had a great visit. Got to show him my "parts". You've have enjoyed it.
