Triumph TR6 - Aluminum V8 on ebay

I found this while ebay shopping. Not a project I'm ready to tackle, but some of you out there may be interested. What a beautiful piece of machinery! Should smoke the tires, hehe.

Ain't it purty?
Tom

Sand and aluminum eh?

Valves out tossed in a box not set up in at least a punched box cover?

Gent seems to know what he's talking about? That scares me? Just happened to have an extra laying around the garage in nearly perfect condition. If he's in the hobby why won't his buddies buy it for more money?

Half decent engine of that type would have a reserve twice that in my opinion.

Blocks shot is my bet! Its his worn out unit machinest has shown a problem with. He has a new plan and the add on parts don't comply. If all was well he would not have around 5 as a reserve?

For some rodder types its called refinancing the next project. Some are very good at it. Believe me I know.

Plus doing a $500 transaction with a zero feedback seller is basically a complete gamble.

If you want to know more about the 215 aluminum V8, go to the recognized authority, Dan Lagrou, at http://www.aluminumv8.com/

Also, check the British V8 newsletter at http://www.britishv8.org Lots of good info there as well.

There's a lot to be said for this engine in an MGB, but in a TR6, the Ford 302 is a much better choice (it is physically smaller than the 215, and still weighs 35 pounds less than the stock 6-cylinder in the TR6). For approximately $4500, you can have a brand new, complete, fuel injected engine, with 375HP! Naturally, if you are a good scrounger, you can get good used engine for a whole lot less. Typically, a complete used engine, in good condition, goes for $1200 - $1500. Transmissions go from $300 used to $1200 new.

If you have any interest in this sort of thing, be sure to be at the British V8 meet in Terre Haute, IN, this coming June, or at the V8 meet in Tennesse in June 2006.

I'll admit to having a moderate interest in this sort of myself!

I know what CRS is...I got it...I think...what is BRB..if you can remember...(sorry:)
Rick C

Right on Bill! That engine use to be in his dunebuggy:)

BRB = Be Right Back. Now, what is CRS? See'ya Real Soon?

CRS: C=can't, R=remember

I don't remember what the S stands for.

There's another one, in my state, that I happened across today. Not nearly as purty or as many pieces included. I think he called it an Olds engine, 215 CI. If I find it again, maybe I'll remember to link to it, too.. He mentioned in his ad that he's putting a Rover one in a TR6, though. Maybe I can visit him.

There's a block in Texas, too. Or was it complete? That was found by searching olds 215.
Tom

Dan,
In some parts of the country, it is CRS, but we have a different strain here in I-dee-ho....CMS!
Cain't 'member ****.

Tom...I think the head configuration on the Olds engine makes for a wider engine. The Buick/Rover heads almost go straight up off the block, whereas the Olds heads go out to the sides more....at least that's what I'm 'memberin'....
