Triumph TR6 - auto trans in TR6
Greetings all I'm new to this site and I have a question, has anyone ever put and automatic trans in a tr6. The reason I'm asking is that we own a stag that because of the economy has become a money pit and we are going to sell it next year. I would like to get something a little smaller (still British, but something the wife can drive when we go with our car club on four day road trips. Thank you Paul Dillon |

I recall an article from well over a decade ago in "British Car" magazine where this was done to a TR-6. There was a good bit of one off fabrication required and I seem to recall that it required rotating the engine on the order of 15 degrees (don't recall the direction) to make everything work. I seem to also recall that the magazine stopped publication several years ago, so don't know the odds of getting your hands on a copy, perhaps Powells in Portland OR? |

I am surprised I have beaten Don to this one. SACRILEGE!!!! |

Rick, normally I would agree, but given the situation described in the article, it was the right thing to do. |

My computer crashed and just got it back. May I make a suggestion. It would be a lot easier to get a Wedge with an auto box in it. |

This has been done in the UK using the BW 35 from a 2.5PI saloon, AFAIK it is more or less a straight bolt in job, just needs a new rear gearbox mount made, a mounting for the gearchange mechanism and a new propshaft. Still alot of work in my opinion but possible. |

Paul Here's something that look interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiXnVl_KZ70&feature=player_embedded Not sure if this is proper, but today on the 6Pack forum there is a discussion on this very subject. |
