Triumph TR6 - Auxillary power outlet

Hi guys,
Thinking about installing an Aux. power outlet under
the dash so I can use a compressor if I ever get a flat. Anyone else ever done this, any problems?
Thanks,
Chris

Did this many years ago, but don't remember which circuit I tapped. It was mounted almost out of sight on passenger's side and was used for radar detector, spot lamp and yes, a small air compressor. No problems noted.

I installed mine just below the stereo passenger side of the dashboard support bracket..I tapped into the "always hot" feed for the radio. Use it mainly for the cell phone, no problems

Chris,

How much power do you think you'll need? That'll determine how you need to hook it up. But basically, it is not a problem at all.

An outlet would be handy. I just made an adapter for my compressor that has a car lighter jack on one end and clips on the other to clip to the battery. On a real windy day, this would not be an ideal solution with that big wing (bonnet) in the upright position, though. (It's windy here right now, I suppose that's why I said that.) If the compressor is only used in the TR, you could just cut the wires and add the clips. OK, I'm lazy.

I put one in flush with the dash support bracket and screwed into the bottom lip of the passenger's lower crash pad. I too tapped into the hot radio feed. I keep a flexible halogen gooseneck lamp plugged in there.

I went to auto parts store and purchased universal cigerette lighter. I then drilled a hole in the bottom of the ash tray to accept the lighter. There is plenty of room under the ash tray for the lighter. I now have a 12V outlet that is hidden (ash tray closed) when not in use. Cell phone charger fits nicely into ash tray. Connect 12V wire to constant "hot wire" (same as radio).
