Triumph TR6 - Battered but not bowed in Florida!

We have had 4 hurricanes this season-the first time in over 100 years that 4 have hit one state in the same year. 2 of them, Frances and Jeanne, made landfall about 15 to 20 miles north of us, and the eye of both went right over the house.

The TR6 is fine, tucked snuggly away in the garage with its hurricane proof garage door. The house did well too, with no damage. The trees and shrubs did not do so well, but they can be replaced.

Summer down here pretty much stinks--it is too rainy, hot and humid to drive the TR6 much from about June to sometime in October. You can't really work on cars because of that same heat and humidity. Then, we have to deal with the possibility of hurricanes in August and September.

But then fall and winter comes. The rainy season ends. The humidity drops to tolerable levels. We have highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's. Driving a rag top is delightful, especially one with a little pizaz like the TR6. For 6 or 7 months, its wonderful.

Someday, I would love to get out of here for the summer, but if I can ever manage that, and have perfect weather year round, I may really be insufferable!

We are all glad you made it through. It sure has been a bad year for Fl.
Pretty soon you are going to be talking about good driving days while we northern folk will be complaining about the snow. We will probably be telling you ta......:)
Anyway...glad you are safe.
If you really want to get away in the summer, you are welcome to the TR6BBSBBQ next year.

I will be down in FL. next January. Will be going down with a neighbour to take his parents car south for them. Probably there for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately we are on the other side...St. Petes.

Hope the last one was the last one. Four is quite enough.

Sounds like your winters are like our summers, except that we never really got one this year, weather being cold and ugly most of July and August. Now that the frosts have arrived, the top down days are definitely numbered. Anyone got some leather helmets and goggles for sale?

The geese are starting to arrive from up north. We'll send a few down to help fertilize those new shrubs.

Good to hear that things are OK on the East Coast. Hopefully FL is through with these for the year.

I just got a Panhandle (aka "the Redneck Riviera") report from my parents in Destin post Ivan. The house itself is OK, knocked a couple of panels off the pool enclosure, some sea wall and boat house/dock damage. However, the boat and SeaDoos are gone. Was it the storm or did they get a little "help" afterwards is anyone's guess as the folks had been in Houston TX. Seems that most of the damage was either to the west or east of them.

As for us, we had worse time with the earlier remnants. Lost some shingles to Frances leftovers, so had to effect a little roof repair. There has been some flooding in the Atlanta area, but none right near our house like we had with Frances.
SteveP

Steve, sorry to hear about your parents' boats. It was likely the storm as Florida had National Guard and local law enforcement out looking for looters. There have been virtually no reports of looting in the wake of these storms because of curfews, cops, etc.

And we are really looking forward to cooler, drier weather with no hurricanes! Also, I can try to actually work on the car and start asking stupid questions again.

Hi John We are in Stuart and got the full hit! The TR6 was holding the garage door from the inside and did a good job, She has just undergon a full motor rebuild and is now waiting for the winter I hope to maybe take her to the Treasure coast Mall in Jensen Beach in a couple of weeks It would be great to meet up with you sometime
Clive Parker

Clive, we're in Tequesta, but on the Martin County side.

Who did your rebuild? I have been trying find a good mechanic around here, but no luck so far. There is a guy in WPB who is supposed to be very good, and I've talked with him--he had a car I looked at a couple of years ago. And there is a guy in Lake Park who was recommended by someone with a Spitfire.
