Triumph TR6 - BEWARE - Scam artist on TR web pages

Hello, all.

I have a TR6 for trade posted here and on a few Triumph classifieds web pages. This fella sent me a few e-mails acting like he wanted to buy it. As you can see, he is definately trying to pull something. BEWARE of people trying this sort of crap over the internet and across country borders. He can leave you holding a bad check and a BIG bill. And he is using our web pages. (After I told him I would only accept cash or USPS money order, I never heard back from him).

I've heard about those scams before. People fall for it everyday.

I dont get it????...how was this dangerous??...you dont ship the car till you cash his check right...?
Todd

He sends bad check to cover car and shipping with extra just to make sure every expense is covered. then you send him good check for the extra amount he sent you. After your bank tells you it was a "fake" certified check he sent you (sometimes weeks later), its too late and you already sent him the good cashiers check. He doesn't care about the car. Just wants some $. Be very careful before sending someone your $ or your car. I hear most of these guys operate out of Africa.

Todd,
Do not respond to any emails from Nigeria. :)

Where in Texas are you located? I'm near Denton.

I have also heard of this scam - I put a '52 BMW R67/2 for sale on a web site and got a lot of these types of offers. So many that I gave up and took the motorcycle off of the web site. Anytime somebody offers you 2 to 3 times your asking price, and wants you to send them CASH, it's too good to be true. Was it Barnum who said "there's a sucker born every minute"? (and practiced by most of our politicians).

I dont know about the US but a cashed check means little in the UK in terms of is it safe the banks will happly cash a forged check then months down the line inform you it was forged the vendor has ran of with your merchandise and the bank want you to refund the money of the forged check you should only accept cammels or cash.

In England we call that the nigerian scam, beware.

The fact this thing is a scam is pretty much a given. Can't imagine anyone actually falling for this type of thing. The factors that would entice someone to send money to a unknown private individual over the internet are beyond me.
