Triumph TR6 - Bosch Alt/Belt Length

Some time back on one of the Bosch alternator threads, Jim D mentioned having to go to a 7440 (Gates type number) belt. I was playing around with one of the Fiesta alternators on a spare motor and found the 15430 (Dayco type number) on that motor was too short when the alternator was changed over. I tried a 7440 and found that it took things almost out to the end of the adjuster link. I then tried a 7435, good fit at about the middle of the adjuster link. In light of that, I am curious as to what belt others who have made this conversion settled on.

Note that in the Gates and Dayco numbers, the last three digits identify the belt length. A 7430 and 15430 are 43" belts, 7435 and 15435 are 43.5", etc. The prior digits identify the width and belt angle, in this case the belts are published as being 29/64", the calipers said they were .407-.410" (~10 mm) and 36 degrees.

Steve,
I've been using a DAYCO 17455 belt on my Fiesta alternator.

Steve of York,

Do you by chance have a late TR6 that has/had an air pump? If so, that and the fact that the 17xxx Dayco numbers being wider likely explains why you would be running a belt that is 45.5" in length vs. the 43.5" that I wound up with. The other possibility is that you had a car set up for the later wide belt pre-air pump days and had to go a little longer than stock. Your response essentially tells me that my question was not well formed. So, I'll give it another try with a multipart question.

For those out there who have made the conversion to the Fiesta Bosch alternator, a) what year is your TR6 b) what belt were you using c) and if you had to go to a different belt, what belt did you go to?

for myself
a) 1971
b) 15430 Dayco/7430 Gates
c) 15435 Dayco/7435 Gates, 1/2" longer than before (and no, this has nothing to do with all that spam that we get about "longer" so quit snickering out there)

Steve,

My TR6 is a 74.
Original belt was 1125mm x 13mm.
New belt is 1155mm x 13mm.

Hi Steve

I went to the Bosch Alt. and I used the belt that was
already on there with the stock Lucas. I have a '74 TR6

'72 TR6
Original belt was stock length (whatever that is).
Bosch alt belt is stock length too (but a struggle to get over the alt pulley at first).
