Triumph TR6 - Brake pads

I pulled the 6 in the garage last week to repack the front wheel bearings, and the inside of my right front rotor has a half inch wide groove close to 1/16 inch deep. Hard spot on the pads? I had the rotors turned 3 yrs ago when we got the car on the road....only light grooving all the way across the surface then, basic normal wear at 48,000 miles, so I'm stumped as to what might have caused it. Meanwhile, anyone got recommendations for pads?

you pick up a rock?

Don...
I thought about that, but as deep as the gouge is, I can't believe I wouldn't have heard it. Especially as sensitive (paranoid) as I am about noise when I'm driving this thing! Ask my wife, her response is usually "What noise? I didn't hear a thing."

Have to agree with Don. You picked up something. An expensive something.

Rod-I also had a groove on the inside of the rotor and chalked it up to a rock. Replaced the rotor and the groove re-appeared. After head scratching and investigating, the culprit was a steering stop had come loose and allowed the rotor to contact the trunnion bolt head or nut on full lock. Pads? Maybe EBC Greenstuff? No experience with them, but might consider them at replacement time.

Can anyone offer advice on the Greenstuff pads? I'm kinda leaning that way, got a bad report from someone local that they had to heat up...not good for street. What say you with Greenstuff?

I put them (EBC Green Pad) on last summer. They work very well. Stopping is greatly improved and they don't squeal. The only problem that I see is they seem to be dirtier than regular type. They seem to dirty up my Superlites fast BUT, I put them on about the same time so it could be just as dirty as regular ones.

I put the Greenstuff pads on over the winter on turned rotors. I only have a few hundred miles on them but the stopping is significantly better then whatever was on before, but they squeal at light brake application. Actually, right now they are squealing like a freight train but seem to be getting better. I am hoping it is just a bedding-in issue. Either way, I'll take some noise for better braking.

I noticed a bit of dusting at first but it seems to have decreased. I assume it was the initial wear through the "brake-in" coating that EBC puts on their pads. Judging by the initial wear on the previously smooth rotors I'd guess that the coating is somewhat abrasive and intended to smooth the braking surface.

I'd go with the Greenstuff. They are intended as a street or autocross pad and should have a good bite from cold.

I also indulged in EBC greenstuff's to replace semi-metallics, and have been very pleased so far. I have wires and haven't noticed any abnormal dusting; it's been 500 miles. Squeaked occasionally at first, but doesn't any more. The brakes bite well, though.

I too am very pleased with the EBC Greens...and very little dust to mar my wires!

Now...it would be nice to put some discs on the back too! has anyone done this and if so, what kind of labor/costs am i looking at?
