Triumph TR6 - Brake pressure warning switich

71 TR6 has a leaking preassure warning switch. The brake fluid is leaking from the top of the switch with the plug in place. Will a new switch correct the leaking problem?Allen
Allen Bradley

If you are leaking at the PDWA, it is because you need to replace the seals. Replacing the switch will not stop a leak from the PDWA.

First question is are you on the list for one of the TR6 CDs? If so, there is probably an article on the CD on rebuilding the brake master cylinder and PDWA. You will need AS568 dash size 008 O-rings for the rebuild. These O-rings are 5/16" OD, 3/16" ID with a 1/16" section thickness. The material should be Ethylene Propylene (EDPM) and a little of the Girling rubber grease. Remove the PDWA from the car and plug the two front brake line ports with 7/16-20 bolts and one of the rear line ports with a 3/8-24 bolt. Remove the switch from the PDWA and the large end cap nut and aim the open end of the PDWA into a bucket that has a towel in the bottom. Use compressed air to blow the piston out of the PDWA. Clean everything up, install the new o-rings and reassemble, reinstall, bleed brakes.

I got my o-rings from McMaster-Carr, it is their part number 9557K459. Other potential sources are marco Rubber and American Packing and Gasket. Odds are if you have a good industrial supply or rubber/seal supplier near you they will have the right stuff. Here are some URLs:

Thanks for the info. How can I get a TR6 cd?
Allen Bradley

Steve- Refering to the PDWA, have you ever seen the connecting plug shrink so that it will not slide on anymore?

DON KELLY

Don - The one that was in my car when I bought it had distorted and possibly had shrunk some, but just about everything on that part of the harness was hosed. I got into the thing trying to straighten things out and decided that it was a miracle that the the DPO hadn't burnt the car up. Lots of melted insulation and such, including the stuff around the PDWA switch.

Allen - Let me know if you have been contacted already or not. If not I will need your snail mail address. I on the Dan Masters chain. He received the CD earlier this week, he will make and send a copy to Gene, then I get a copy from Gene. Once that happens, I will make and send a copy to you. You get to pick up on a future request for the CD and send them a copy. Look at my e-mail address, take out the spaces around the "at" and "dot" and convert to the appropriate chacters.

Steve- Where you able to make the plug work?If yes,How?

The switch was replaced with a new one and the partially melted/shrunk plug surround on the wiring harness was cut away. I just let it run around nekkid*.
