Triumph TR6 - Brake Servo

Does anyone have experience on brake servo units? It seems I'm loosing vacuum here and I would think that there should be no vacuum loss if the unit is working properly. This is causing me to run with the carb adjustments on rich. Rebuild kits indicate that the main diaphram is not included so it may not be worth going this route (new unit a bit expensive however).

DA--Check out the venerable Buckeye Triumphs website for a detailed technical session on rebuilding a servo. If you want to rebuild yourself, you'll have to fabricate a couple of tools just to get the servo halves apart. Probably the best route is to remove it and take to a big rig truck shop that has lots of experience with all things air-powered.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Rick: Much thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The site and article are both excellent. Some thing arn't worth doing yourself, so I'm just going to bite the bullet and purchase a new unit.

You have given up to easily. One of the reasons for owning a TR6 is to test us....to make us enjoy our cars. Look further before you buy a new unit, for sure, they are expensive. A TR6 is of the old school which is very easy to work on.

Dan- The Buckeye website has an article on servo rebuilding that recommends a vendor that will rebuild the servo, including replacement of the diaphragm, for $85 plus shipping. Sounds like a deal.

On reading this thread I was wondering about whether my car (stock 74 TR6) is set up correctly. Looking at the Moss and TRF catalogs, it looks ok, but the connection to my front carb is made only by the plastic T between the hoses. This does not look like it would seal. The rear carb has a rubber hose from the T, and a little plastic adapter on the carb.

Should there be a hose or something else in between the T and the front carb?

Whoops, now that my coffee has kicked in, it has dawned on me that I am thinking about the wrong set of vacuum lines.

I will start a new thread with my question.
