Triumph TR6 - Broken Hood(bonnet) cable

What suggestion do you have for getting the bonnet open after the release cable as broken loose.

In a bad way...CgregD

When u get her open put in a back-up system that is mentioned in MOSS catalogue. Cheap insurance!

Greg:

I had read the emergency cable tips and had delayed installing one, which was the big regret of the Spring. I had no luck through the glovebox and had to remove the front hood bolts to get it open.

After having gone through that process, the emergency cable handle in the glovebox is now the prettiest accessory on the car.

When I replaced the cable supplied by the PO (on his advice) of my car, I installed the old original as a backup, but not knowing any better I mounted the handle in the right wheel well, but far back from the tire. Its turned out to be so handy there for getting to the engine that its become the primary release. As you can imagine, the cable goes straight across from the latch to the fender, and there's not much to get in the way of.

Just a thought,

Spare release location is better just above the passenger's foot well than in the wheel well. I used a slip on trim bolt clip (available at Home Depot or a auto parts store) over the leaver and a bike brake cable. The mushroomed end of the cable fits inside the bolt clip and I afixed a dowel as a T-handle. Length of cable is 12" and total cost is under $5

I also routed a backup release above the passengers foot. Makes your passenger feel helpfull when your main breaks.
Rick

Ditto on the passenger foot location, plus there is already a hole there left of the washer bottle so you do not have to drill a new one (atleast on a 74).

Anybody know what that hole was originally intended for?

Ditto Ditto on the pasenger side. Ignatius, I used the same hole with a grommet. Purpose off the hole...for a back up release cable off course. Hay Rick..good to hear from you.
Ed, what is that saying about " never put off today...." It must have been coined by an engineer in Coventry.

Rick C, Ya, the kit that I got from Moss also had a rubber grommet, so I just pulled the rubber plug on the body and had the whole kit installed in 3.2 seconds. The kit from Moss was simply a bare stainless steel cable with a good handle, but I had extra vacuum pipe (small diameter black stuff), which I passed the wire through before bolting it down, and I also put one of those little aluminum doohickeys that go on the end of bike cables on my cut end.
