Triumph TR6 - Can I fit?

I have a question that maybe someone can answer. I've inherited by father's love of the TR6 (he owned a 74 model of which I have fond memories). Lately we've been talking about purchasing one together as sort of a father/son project.

But not only did I inherit the love of the TR6, I also inherited my 6 foot 5 inch height (although my dad is shorter than I am). I read the thread from Charlie B. of Kitchener Ont. Canada on the seat extension brackets that he made, which looks very promising. But still, I'm wondering, am I too tall for a TR6, even if I can relocate the seat?

I will add that I spoke with a member of a TR6 club in Ohio who noted that another member who owns a TR6 is roughly my height and, at one time, weighed nearly 400 pounds (I'm not that big though). Although promising, I'm still a little skeptical.

Also, I'd add that although I'm tall, I have no problem fitting into cars such as Honda Accords, Subaru Outbacks, 3 Series BMWs, modern Porsche 911s, and even the brand new Mini Cooper.

Since the opportunity to sit in a TR6 is fairly rare, I'd appreciate anyone's comments. Thanks!

Hi John,
I think the only way to know for sure is to visit that TR club in your area and I'm sure that a TR6 owner would gladly let you get behind the wheel and maybe even drive it !...I agree at 6'5" you might be darn close to being uncomfortable in a six. I'm 6'2" and I wish I had another inch or so ( of room in the car for you dirty minds !) haha
My brackets really helped me but I know the seat cannot go back any further than now.
Good Luck

John,

Everyone has differing opinions of whether a car of comfortable. I'm 6'2" (tall, er... no, I'm not a freak.. I mean over all height of me.. no... wait.. get your minds out of the gutter, you know what I mean) and feel I fit nicely into my Six. I do keep my seats pretty close to the wheel since they're non-telescopic though. The last time things went bad, my right knee was impaled by my keys in the Civic, but that's another story.

Charlie has an awesome idea to add several inches the the rear seat travel which should satisfy the taller individuals.

The bottom line is you need to try it on and see how it fits. You'd be amazed at how little space you can work with just to drive such a fun car.

I must warn you there is less legroom in a TR6 then there is in a Mini Cooper.

If I'm like the others on this board, you're welcome to stop by and try on my Six to see how it fits.

John, 6'3" here and I fit. I think another 2 inches might be an issue. Try one on first.

John,
As an after thought if your height is more in your upper body than your legs..( I'm all legs myself )then you might have a better fit.

Thanks to everyone that responded. Believe it or not, a TR6 went on sale near me and I had the chance to check it out and sit in it this weekend. I believe it will work out!

I pushed the seat back all the way and got in. As I told my wife, it wasn't "drive 8 hours" comfortable, but for the shorter fun drives, which is what I'm interested in, it should work. The only thing I really noticed was that due to the fact that my legs straddled the steering wheel, it would be a bit hard to operate the window crank, but that's not a big issue since I'd rarely want to take it out in bad weather.

Also, getting into the car required a different approach. When I normally get in a car, I extend my right leg into the left side of the footwell and then slide my leg underneath the steering wheel as I sit down. The TR 6 was a little too tight to do that, but what I was able to do, since the car sits low, was put my right leg into the footwell on the right side of the steering wheel and then lower myself down. I believe that if I install a bit smaller steering wheel and install Charles' seat extension brackets, it will be even better.

To all us tall folks,

Its been a very long time since I was in my 6, (still in the fixing stage) and I forgot how tight they can be until I helped Malcolm pick up his car tonight.

My area of problem is my right leg between the steering wheel and the radio console over the hump. I am planning on installing a 13" wheel with 1 " dish to it, but does anyone know if there is any adjustment in the angle of the steering column? can it be adjusted at all upward?

Also, can it be telescoped more to the interior? Oh and we really dont need the radio console do we? I REALLY want to fit in my dam car!!!!!

UI guess I could always cut out a couple of inches in my right leg, but then I would have problems buying pants.........
