Triumph TR6 - Carb woes

I recently rebuilt my carbs to illeviate misfiring issues but now, starting is difficult. The chokes are effecting individually but the car is reluctant to fire when cold. Once running, its fine but it remains a bear to get going, especially on cool mornings.

Any thoughts? Temp compensator perhaps, or blocked channel somewhere? I am starting to ponder the coil as well but essentailly I'm at the end of my rope.

Are/where the carbs synchronized?
Did you adjust the float levels?

I didn't amper with the jet orifice nor did I change the float levels. There is fule getting to the resevoir.

I'm thinking perhaps I sghould get the carbs looked at by a specialist. Can you recommend anyone in East end Toronto? (I find Joe a bit expensive).

The carbs will go out of sync on their own and very probably after a rebuild. Synchronizing has nothing to do with the needles. It is "matched" air flow into each carb.
There is a small parts supplier up off Yonge Sreet (East off Yonge) North of HWY 7. Do not recall his name. If I recall, he had a small garage there. If no one else comes up with a name, I can go through my TR folder and get it.

Bryn,

Did you remove or dismantle the choke mechanism? The orientation of the disk inside is critical (the holes need to line up) Have you calibrated the temperature compensators? You might want to ensure they are seated properly.

Just some suggestions from my point of view,

Calirating the temperature compensator is out of my league but teh choke dic may be seat wrong. It looked to me as though it can only fit one way or be 180 degrees out. I'll give it a spin.

Hi Bryn,
I recall the choke disc can be installed wrong...as for misfiring I think that problem is in your ignition side....timing / wires / vac leak that area.
Do you have a vac line from your carbs to the dist ??

The misfire issue has been resolved. The latest nightmare is it won't start. I'll investigate the choke disc orientation.

Thanks
Bryn

Epilogue:

The choke disk was inverted. It now starts on the first crank without touching the gas. I love it. Went for a lovely drive yesterday up to Markham where I parked beside a Cobra kit car at a great little pub.

Good job Mike!

Glad to hear you got the problem behind you, Bryn. Thanks for the update.

Well, almost.
This morning it would start but wouldn't keep running. Huge plumes of smoke out the back indicate flooding? As soon as the choke is off it stalls. The plan was to take it to its winter resting place. Now I may have to wrap it up in situ.

Sorry to hear that Bryn.

Difficult to trouble shoot without seeing it. Is smoke black? If you adjust the idle screws up or pull the throttle, will it keep running without the choke?
