Triumph TR6 - Carpet Selection

Hi All,

Looks like I'll be needing carpet for the 6 shortly...anyone have any preferences or opinions about who to order from? Which quality to get? Who to stay away from? Best underlay?

Thanks,
Rob

I have never bought from them but I like the things coming out of Magic Carpet from the Roadster Factory group.

If you have an early TR6, go for the wool carpet like that originally fitted. If you have a later car that came with the loop carpet, get that if you are going the concours route. Other wise, I'm a sucker for that Wilton Wool carpet from the early cars and would use it anyway in a late car if I were doing one of those for myself.

The Magic Carpet stuff is nice. Roadster sells both a jute and a synthetic underlay. I have gone the synthetic route. It might cost points to a thorough concours judge, but then I have done enough other things to the car that a judge that thorough might just get the vapors and faint when the bonnet was raised. If that didn't get them, then the underside may be the thing to finish them off.

Rob,
I'm just starting to install the loop carpet from Roadster Factory. Looks good so far but cutting out the side panel speaker holes is a chore, plus I found out the speakers are dried out! Oh well, something else to spend my money on!

Hi Ed!

I've ordered a carpet set from the Roadster Factory. It should be here later in the week...now if I can stop wet sanding and get the car to the painter's, it might even get installed sometime this year.

Did you remove the transmission cover to install the carpet kit? My 6 was completely carpetless when it found me so I am a little unsure of a few details...is the carpet glued to the tranny cover or just held in place by the console?

Thanks,
Rob

Rob, I just had to take the transmission cover off the remove the engine. Actually, I just followed instructions while Clive did the real work.

Mine had an underlayment that was glued to the cover and the carpet appeared to be glued to the underlayment. That does not mean anything as it was not the original transmission cover.

I would not think you would need to remove the cover to recarpet. If you do, it is just a few bolts and no big deal.

Mine is attached to the tranny cover with 4 dome snaps but also I glued foam padding to the cover for noise deadening.

Rob,
No glue, no padding, just snaps which I didn't put back. I don't think it will go anywhere when the console goes back in!
