Triumph TR6 - Center Caps
Hey, Does anyone no the origin to the color of the center caps on our cars? Mine is a 72 dark blue in color and I have both black and grey plastic center caps any insight on the factory practice of mounting different colors in different years and with different paint colors would be appreciated. Thanks, Keith |

Black 1970 up to and including 1972, Silver grey (matched wheel color) from 1973 on 1969 had Rostyle wheel covers fitted as did the TR5/250. This is what makes a 1969 disc wheel such a hard find. It was the only one at 5 1/2" width with the little protrusions for mounting the wheel cover. |

Steve is correct, but I painted my black caps silver because I like that look more. |

OK Let the debate begin!! Sorry Rick O, gotta disagree with u. I like the black look better. So Keith, since u have both to look at..which colour do you prefer? Rick C |

Hey, I am actually partial to the silver look also but the black that I bought are in better shape, so Rick O what did you use to paint them? Thanks, Keith 72 TR6 |

KB--I used the "wheel aluminum" color spray you find at any Wal-Mart or Advance. Matches very well and gives the illusion of a fatter wheel. |

Rick O your perception about fatter wheel I think is correct they also look taller with the silver paint so back to silver. I liked their look better, although on a puff like Rick C's car the black looks fine I really like that powder blue interior. Regards, Keith 72 TR6 |

KB--Forgot to mention that if you paint the caps, roughen the plastic with sandpaper or a Scothbrite pad and hit it with primer before the color coat. I finished the colorcoat with clearcoat too. |
