Triumph TR6 - Chassis Dimensions - TR6 CD

Can some one help me decipher the chassis dimension table in the TR6 CD (TR6 Official Repair Manual). There are two numbers for a number of dimensions and also a ** - note that I can’t find.

Do you have the Bentley manual. It is also in there. If you still need help post up again

I don't have the Bentley manual.

If you have the TR-6 CD you do. The Official Repair Manual is identical to the Bentley Manual w/o the cover! I've just gone through it though and did not find the chassis dimension drawing. Maybe I missed it. Which reference is unclear to you?

Where you see a pair of numbers (such 25.31 & 25.19 for item 2), you are looking at the tolerance band. The minimum for that dimension item 2 would be 25.19" and the maximum would be 25.31".

As for the ** notations, I am not seeing an explanation for those. At first it looked like it might be to designate closer tolerance dimension, but there were enough inconsistant items to knock out that thought. They do not show up in the Bentley book.

I also noted some differences between the CD "Official" table 76.10.02 values and the Bentley table 76.10.02 values. The Bentley book for example did not differentiate between up to CF1 and the CF1 and on configuration for items 14 and 34. In both cases, the Bentley book shows a single nominal value that is tied to the CF1 and on configuration.

There are also differences for items 7, 25, and 31. Item 7 shows 3.03" and 2.97" in Bentley and 5.53" and 5.47" in the CD "Official" book. Your guess is as good as mine on this one. Time to measure on the car if I remember next time I'm under it. For item 25 there appears to be a typo in the Bentley as the dimension range is shown as 11.91" to 10.79", it should be 11.91" to 11.79" instead as stated on the CD (otherwise how would they have been able to mount the body shell with a 1+" tolerance band? not even BL at their very worst could pull off a bodge like that on the factory floor). On item 31, there appears to be another typo in Bentley as it shows only a .01" difference between min and max, the CD shows 3.39" to 3.33" for a more realistic .06" tolerance band.

I was thinking it might be tolerance. Although, I could not understand why there would be a tolerance on most but not all dimensions. From Steve's analysis it seems the official version of the manual on the CD is the one to use. Thanks for the feedback.

As we all know, the engineers who designed the car did not have it quite right...the guys who assembled the car did not have it quite right...so why would the guy who wrote the book on it get it right?
