Triumph TR6 - Chassis Trailing Arm Dimensions

I am in the process of replacing the trailing arm mounting section of the chassis. I find that the repair section I have purchased places the trailing arm mounting bracket holes approx 1/4 inch to the inside from where they located on my chassis, the section is therefore too short in that dimension. The spacing of the six holes on the section matches it would just end up being installed 1/4" to the inside (without extending it). Can anyone tell me where the inner most trailing arm bolt holes are positioned relative to the adjacent chassis frame? I have not found this dimension in any of the literature. Thanks.

Interesting that you can buy a section "pre made" to do this job. Never heard of this.
Not really following what you are saying but if the holes are not in the same location, then you will end up with a rear wheel alignment problem that may not be correctable.
Someone out there in TR land has the tub off their frame. Anyone got a dimension for PA?

Both Rimmer Bros and Revington TR sell trailing arm box repair sections, about $50.00 bucks a side. This is one of the things on my "to do list" for my 250 so I am interested to see how it works out.

The repair sections are look solid and are well made, except for the dimension issue I am looking for guidance on. They look to be the logical way to repair the section, with some adjustment they can be made to fit. I don't want to start playing around with them prior to getting some feedback on the dimensions. As I indicated they are too short by 1/4 inch.

Have you cut your old unit out yet?? Weld an angle across both sides top and bottom first. Even before you remove cruciform plates.

Who did you get the spares from. They should have a mouth. Metal top and bottom to fit over the inner rail after cruciforms are removed. Allows for adjustment.

Let me know I'm doing a major frame rebuild.

The parts came from Moss in the UK. The parts do have a mouth as you describe. If however the mouth were fitted snug around the frame on the inside (under the cruciform plates) this would locate the trailing arm mounting holes 1/4" inside of where they are currently on the frame. This is the same on both sides. I could position them to place the holes in the right location but that leave a large 1/4" gap. Either the frame repair sections are too short or the frame has been repaired before (it doesn't look like it however). I measure 1 7/8 inches from the frame to the inner pair of trailing arm mounting holes. If you could give me your dimensions that would be great.

p.s. I have the angle already in place as you suggest.

I have just completed the same repair, the parts I used came from Moss. I had welded angle iron in place to get my before measurements and angle. The box sections are in fact 1/4 " to short as my before measurements were dead on, I added material to compensate and all seems OK. Hope this helps.

Measured from the back. From the hole center to the frame I have 2 inches.

The in and out dimension is less critical than the angle and level. That in and out will just affect the wheels position in the wheel well. 1/4 is no big deal. As well when you cut out the old units you will find you need to do some tin work on the center rails in most cases?
