Triumph TR6 - Chroming Tail Light Recommendations?
Howdy I have my taillight assemblies disassembled with the intent to have them chromed. They have pitting on the exposed sections. I have a quote from a local chromer which is fairly dear. (600 Canadian Loonies) Has anyone done their rear lights and who did you use? Was the work of good quality and was the cost below my quote? Thanks for your advice. (getting ready for another season) Regards Mike Petryschuk 69 TR6 |

Mike That to me is way too much for both assemblies. I had a rear bumper (3 parts) done including filling holes and welding in nuts to attach the center piece and it was $400.00. Hope someone replies to you. My guy was in Downsview. Rick |

Mike, Consider Eastwood's near chrome paint or powder coat them with their closest to chrome powder and top coat with clear. Won't be chrome, but it'll be close and the cost'd be considerably less. OTOH, if you want them chromed, check out Tri-City Plating Co Inc. in Elizabethton, Tennessee 37643. 1-800-251-7536 or 1-423-542-1691 db |

Mike There must be some old archives on chroming. I know there where some mentioning names of guys in our neck of the woods. Bill Brayford mentioned one around Guelph. Rick |

Sorry Don I don't know your e-mail. Did you get up to Vancouver for the Olympics at all? Great Final Hockey game and I just don't mean the end result. Both teams played a great game and you couldn't ask for a better way to decide it. Regards Mike PS Rick- The chromer Bill likes to recommend is the one I got a quote from in Cambridge. They are dear and I think they are pushing the envelope with $600 quote. Thus I am going to shop around. |

Don, try getting a passport!!! db |

Try Rimmer Bros in England, they have a sale on at the moment. You probably can get complete tail light assemblies for about the same price as as you have been quoted for chroming. Regards Colin |

Mike... this could be where you got your quote but I'm told by a fellow enthusiast and show car guy that The Plating House of Canada in Concord, Ontario produces show quality. They have a website... take a look. Ken |

Colin, Ken Thanks again. Don- what's the matter- did you stomp on a beaver on a previous visit or campaign against the seal hunt? Mike |

Don, when you said they won't let you across the border, I assumed you were talking about getting back into the States, as we call it here. You need a passport to do that, and I hear the price of one just jumped, as your government tries to lock its citizens inside its borders ;-) We take our curling seriously, though. Its how we learn to drive, getting the car to stop on the ice before it enters the intersection. Tony |
