Triumph TR6 - Click & Adjust Tool

Just bought the tool and followed instructions...the clearance for the valves is .010, with the rocker fully on top of the stem, it is back out five clicks but when checking with feeler gauge not even a .005 passes through...if it is backed 30 clicks then I obtain about .010...Has any one used the tool before?

IMHO this is one of those tools sent to us from heaven. Go to a ARCHIVE thread, May 11, 2002 called GUNSEN TOOLS.
Again, I think you have to register (be a member) to view archives.
I do 8 clicks and am around 10 thou. 30 is way to many clicks. With the click-adjust, I can set all the valves in about 20 minutes and be spot on. Remove your spark plugs...it makes it easier on the hands pulling the fan blade:).
The one nice thing about the click-adjust is that it takes into account any wear on the rockers that a feeler guage will not.
The instructions are dead on. Be carefull that the threads are clean or you will be doing "cliks" and actually be doing nothing( not turning the valve adjusting screw). Make sure the black knob does not turn when tightening the locking nut. If you hear a click it has turned and you need to start again that valve. I am sure u have the 1/2" drive 1/2" 6 point socket on the tool.
Angel, u will not regret buying this tool when you have the procedure down pat.
Let me know results of your next adjustment. Oh ya, engine should be cold when doing this so bring it up to Canada:)

Angel - If what you say about 30 clicks, it may be as Rick suggested. Take off your rocker bar and look to see if you have stepped grooves in the curved end of the rockers where it pushes down on the end of the valve stem. I think your if these steps are 0.020" deep, it might explain the differences.

I have only ever used feeler gauges, but I make sure that I have no stepped grooves on the curved end of my rockers first. If I do, I file them back with a power file into a smooth curve again with no stepped grooves.

To turn the crank, I simply put the car in top gear, grab the front wheel, and push/pull until the desired valves are in position for adjustment. No plug removal or cut hands.

While your TR6's boast great technological improvements over a sidescreen TR, (do you really believe that ?) you can't beat a hand crank to turn over the engine while checking and/or re-gapping the valve clearances.

Wish I could go to Cristopher's meeting at his garage...but don't have any overcoats...!!!Could have brought some rum...!!!Back to the tool..redone again with 10 clicks and engine fired up but sounds like some valves are too loose. Probably take the rocker bar out and check for wear. Sunday i went to an Auto Show and another owner of a TR6 told me that with HS6 SU and short manifold, my car gained over 20 HP...!Is that true? Any information on that subject will be appreciated, although it could be on another thread.
