Triumph TR6 - Closing the doors with the hood down

Hi
I'm obviously missing the point here and either my soft top doesnt fit properly, i'm not attaching everything correctly or my doors or frame are out of adjustment. Basically when the hood is up, clamped to the window frame and all the poppers are done up, how do you close the doors with the windows up without the glass hitting the hood? If I undo the side poppers and pull the soft top fabric out the way i can just about close the doors but surely something's wrong here..
any suggestions?

On my '71, the door windows touch (seal?) against the hood on the top and trailing edges of the windows. I can't picture your situation unless you're thinking the windows should be inside the hood. A picture would be worth a thousand words!

I've often wandered the same thing. If I understand you correctly when you close the door your side glass overlaps top top at the upper rear corners. If you roll them down a little then back up they "tuck"in the top but then the doors won't open easily. I always chalked it up the nature of these cars not to be airtight.

Who puts thier top up anyhow.....

Now I'm even more confused. I went back to re-read the thread and noticed that it is titled 'Closing the doors with the hood down'.

On the other hand you state the question: 'Basically when the hood is up, clamped to the window frame and all the poppers are done up, how do you close the doors with the windows up without the glass hitting the hood?'

Brit speak:
Hood = Bonnet
Roof = Hood
Boot = truck
and so on ...

Take a hit and pass it this way.

Huh?

Do you mean the top of the window hits the flap that it's supposed to sort of tuck under? Just don't roll the window up as far. There might be a stop you could adjust inside the door that limits the movement of the window.

Was this a practice instituted by the designers of the tr6? If so then that answers alot of my questions!

yep, sorry, titled the thread incorrectly. it's meant to say' closing the doors with the hood/roof up' not down.
Basically there seems to be one or two issues. When the hood/roof is up, I then close either door with the glass up and the glass hits the side of the hood(the vertical bit that is supposed to be on top of the glass) so firstly how do you close the door with the window up and not hit this bit of the hood.....and secondly, the glass does appear to hit the top of the hood at the front. if you lower the glass a bit then it seals against the seal correctly.....still doesnt answer the side pieces though......surely it cant always be this hard to fit......i'll try and find a photo so that we all know what the hell i'm on about.....

You can do quite a bit of adjustment of the final position of the window glass by removing the door panel liner, basically you can adjust the top and bottom stops and move the glass forwards, backwards, in and out, it is quite tedious but with patience you should get a good glass fit.

James, I think that I had a similar problem. Top up,
closing the side windows the door glass would not contact the windshield weatherstrip evenly as the glass was raised. this was caused by someone who had installed the top incorrectly. (too tight)Eventually pulling the windscreen back slightly deforming the frame. Once I corrected the windscreen to door glass fit I then corrected the top. Now everything fits perfectly (for a British car).
