Triumph TR6 - cold start valves

I'm in the process of rebuilding the Zenith Stromberg carbs on my '75 tr6, and I don't know whether there's supposed to be a gasket between the choke and the carb body. Moss shows one,(only available if you buy the whole kit), yet TRF and VB don't. The Haynes manual does't seem to be very clear on this. Does anybody have an answer to this puzzle? (P.S. I just love this site !)

John--When I rebuilt my ZS's, I used the paper gasket to mount each 'starter box'. It was in the kit I received from VB. It seems like it would be required as there is nothing else sealing the box to the carb body. Without it, you could develop a vacuum leak there.

I'd wager Joe will jump in here but yep, they have a gasket there.

I got my rebuild kits from a regular parts house locally.

And.. for those of you who know that I have SUs on my 6, I have about 3 sets of ZSs around too. One pair that I rebuilt.

Now, what to do with 'em.

Hi John if your in reasonable drive to Guelph for Feb.1st get together e-mail me for directions. Would be great to meet you.

Tip more than help. How to get those silly little gaskets rubber paper or cork. They cost a fortune and not always available.

Make them. Oh yeah I know putting the nice round holes in and getting everything just right is impossible. Wrong. Gas resistant paper rubber etc. is available from the parts store or from a supplier. Bulk costs 2 bucks for a lifetime supply.

Fiskars hand punches, hobby store 1/16 1/8 1/4 plus squares and rectangles. For larger square rectangle holes just outline and add them up. They work great are cheap 6 bucks each size but good and will punch all of the above super clean plus light metal for the odd copper item. Mine have been going for ever. On rubber you won't get the cutting distortion from rubber stretching like using a knife or drill.

Cut a bit oversize set on the casing and mark one hole. Punch, set on with the screw and mark another, punch, put 2 screws in. The rest just mark and punch your square. Set up and check. Mark and block out holes if real small and on rubber use punch or exacto? Use exacto or razor to cut off excess. 10 minutes each after the first one..:) If you could trace as a kid you now have a $20 dollar pro gasket if you include shipping.

Pretty as a picture. And if you get fumble finger and rip it just make another.

It sure sounds like I'd better put some gaskets in there! Thanks for everyone's response. Bill! Wow! Very creative. I think I'll give that a shot! As far as the invite, I'll contact you off line. Thanks again!

ACTUALLY THE CARBS CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITHOUT ANY GASKET ON THE STARTER BOX, BUT ALL THE KITS THAT I HAVE SEEN HAVE THEM INSIDE...IT WON'T HURT TO INSTALL THE GASKET OR LEAVE IT OUT
