Triumph TR6 - Convertible Top Color

I have a '70 TR6 I just finished painting. I kept the original paint color (Damson) and the original interior trim color (New Tan).
I was considering purchasing a Sun-Fast top through LBC/Moss (good sale going on now)in the color 'tan'.
Has anyone seen this top with a new tan trim package?
I'm curious how it would look before I shell out the big dineros.
The old top (what was left of it) was a tannish brown but very much faded.
Thanx for any comments

I only recall seeing soft tops/hoods on new TR6s in black throughout the entire year model range. Then again it was a grained vinyl coated TEX fabric as opposed to a canvas top such as the Sun-Fast. I would check with LBC/Moss for color comparison information before parting with brass for one. For hardtops, I remember seeing black, white and body color on early cars, but by sometime around 71-72 only saw them in body after that through the end of production.

I remember that our next door neighbor bought a new TR6 in Damson/New Tan when I was a kid. What struck as a bit odd was that the tonneau was black as was the top, but the top cover was new tan. Go figure....

The other choice would be to go with black. It matches everything so color comparison would be a moot point. I really like the look of the canvas tops on these cars and have one myself that is sitting in the box waiting for installation.

Dennis, Check out aabestco.com,in Sunbury PA. They have a Stayfast canvas top that comes in black or tan and I think you be surprised at the price. I'm thinking of doing the black canvas.Do a search at their site, for tr6.

Steve,
In Original Triumph book it makes note of just what you said. "Soft tops and tonneau covers (if fitted) were normally black, but white was found on a few early cars in 1969 model year and was available to special order thereafter."
I didn't find any mention to color of the soft top cover altho I'm leaning towards purchasing one in new tan. There are a couple of pics in the book with this color match and it looks fitting.
As for the top itself the more I see the black, even with the tan interiors, the more I like the look.

Joe,
Thanx for the tip on AAbestco. You just made my day! Great price for canvas type top. I'm calling for swatch samples today.

Anybody buy a top from this company?
Curious on the fit.
Comes with a 5 year warranty...that's a plus.

My '71 TR6 was Damson with a white top when new, and it wasn't a special order. The car sat around for months after being built but before "despatch." The Heritage certificate which documents all this is posted on my web page at www.triumphowners.com/735.

When I bought the car in 1981 it had an original-type white vinyl top, which may or may not have been the one it left England with.

Tom,
What color was (is) your interior?
Dennis Silance

Dennis,

The original interior was black, according to the heritage certificate.

If you waited till this week to buy that Stayfast canvas top from aabestco, you will be paying $30 more.
But they still have the best prices for tops, be it vinyl or canvas.
