Triumph TR6 - convertible top seal

Does anybody have any secrets inserting a new rubber seal in the narrow trim at the front of the convertible top? This is the seal that mates to the top of the windshield.

Thanks
JOHN BRUNATTI

Hi John

I just did mine and I used a popsicle stick.

I tucked the back edge into the trim retainer and then used the popsicle stick to push the front edge under the trim retainer.

It still is a tedious task.

I started from the center and worked to the 2 ends.

The popsicle stick is blunt so it doesn't rip or tear or scratch and it is strong enough to push in the foam.

Not sure this adequately described the technique for you. If you want more deatil let me know.

John,

Replaced mine a couple of weeks ago, so here's the trick: Soak it with silicone spray and feed it in on one end, draging it thru to the other side. After I fussed with trying to squeeze it into the track for about 30 minutes, I was ready to give it up and find adult supervision! Took less than 5 minutes.
Good luck!

Sounds like Too many single malts to me!

Hi John... I thought I was the only one muttering away over this task.

I did mine a couple of days ago and after trying the silicone & slide trick without success (sorry Rod... could not drag or push it through) I just laid the back edge ('back' from the perspective of looking down on the channel with top down) into the u-channel and with a blunt screw driver tucked the front edge in. It's a slow process tucking in less than the width of a slot or blade screw driver at a time. Took me 1/2 hour or more.

BTW, looking at the end view of the assymetrical seal the longer side faces the rear of the car once installed.

Good luck!

Thanks,

I completed the task last evening after phoning the TRF tech line. Their recommendation was the same as above. Using a dull screwdriver or putty knife, set the one edge in the back and squeeze the front edge in carefully. Tedious as it is very easy to damage the rubber.

I did attempt to drag through the track using dishsoap but the rubber began to tear.

Rod,
News Flash!! The Bunnahabhain Distillery on the Isle of Islay has marketed a new malt called Octomore. Some of the heaviest peated malts like Ardbeg and Laphroaig have as much as 50 ppm of peat reaching the final product. Octomore has 134 PPM!! Now that's going to one peaty malt. Got 2 bottles from Park Ave. Very limited production. I think US got like 600 bottles total. If you're into peatiness, google it and see if you can find a bottle.
