Triumph TR6 - Critters

This must be a first for a thread like this. I properly stored my TR and we discovered that this year our garage was chosen by a certain mouse and his family to make it a home. Well as I battle another long story of how to catch the little bastard, my buddy told me to put moth balls in the car to prevent them from wanting to go in and making it a nesting home. If they do they will surely destroy the interior. Not to mention them chewing on wires and lines. I have already gone ahead and did what he said, but now it will pullute the car for life, even driving with top down won't air the smell out.

Is there a easier way to prevent Critters from making our loved cars there winter home?
Marcello

Why yes there is a means of prevention Marcello...

Get yourself a goose!

Or for less foul ( sorry:) a means of prevention the good'ol mouse trap trick.
I have heard that mices prefer Canadian cheese.
At least the guy in my garage DID!

I have used dryer softner sheets for about 3 winter storings and have not had any trouble with those pesty rodents including chipmunks. I put them beside each wheel also 2 in boot,3 in car and 3 under bonnet. Also have used after shave lotion with sucess. Both smell better than mothballs and after a few miles with the top down the odour goes away.

The penultimate (for me) anti rodent device is a bar of Irish Spring (old style green) cut into 1/4's.

One in the boot, one behind the seats, one on the floor and one under the hood.

I put each on aluminum foil so as not so soil the carpeted areas.

Worked peachy for the Goose's car.

Honk.

Hi Marcello This may sound a little strange but put a tray of beer! yes Beer in the car the little sods will drink themselves stupid It worked for a problem we had last year, They are born Alcoholics! Clive Happy New Year

Ok folks let me sum this up.
Feed them good Canadian cheese
Then keep thier coats static free by adding fabric softner sheets.
Thirdly let them smell clean with Irish spring soap.
Lastly give them my good canadian beer?
??????????

Ok I will try it all ,.....anything is better then the moth balls.
Thanks folks
Happy 2005

I thought I replied to this last night. Don't remember exactly what I said except "I'm not giving those rodents any of my beer!".
Tom

I got a peek of the little bastard yesterday,....he indeed was close to my TR. I said "scat..!!"

It looked at me, gave me the finger and said "great beer" in a British acent.

damn...
Marcello

I'm surprised there are some with critter problems. With all the oil on my garage floor, the varmits (Yosimite Sam lingo) can't get anywhere near my car. Maybe you're just low on oil?

If you MUST sacrifice a beer for the sake of your TR6, be sure to make it a domestic light beer!

Don,
I don't think our Canadian light beer would be any less then a American full strength beer. I think all of our rodents up in goose country are on a 12 step program.

As for the oil I guess its the one thing about the car that is working right (presenetly knocking on my solid wood coffee table)
Marcello

My mouse made its home in my coveralls stashed in the boot for the winter. Michelle wouldn't come near me unless I warshed them. I see the little fella from time to time. Has a nice set of racing googles and scarf.
