Triumph TR6 - Cup holder

I know...cup holders have no place in a Triumph, but I really enjoy a hot coffee on my early morning drives. The threat of a scalding spill on my lap, or worse, the upholstery, convinced me to cobble something together that was secure, low impact-visually, easily removable and didn't damage the interior.

Here is the MKI version...

...any suggestions/improvements for MKII?

Rob, You have way too much time on your hands.

Rob,
Very nice, simple idea. I would love to add a set of cup holders as well as an elbow rest on the door of my 74

How did you get your image uploaded?
I tried yesterday but received the following message "No path was specified for uploading to." I didn't see any facility for inputting a path.

Hi Barry,
I just used the upload a picture at the bottom of the message box. It was pretty easy.

Care to make another one up?

Hey what about a oil holder.. you could just put a hose in it and let the 6 sip the stuff when needed?
Brent Wilson

Hi Rob,
A nice simple and effective design at lest in my opinion. I do not drink and drive but some where to put a cup is always welcome.

Most manufacturers put the things where any spillage at all ends up in the electrics / electronics of whatever is mounted below it in the centre consol.

I have always favoured having the holder on the outside of the dash about where the air vents are in the TR6 and towards the door which I have to admit is far easier on the passenger side than for the driver's position.

There is one have seen which is a simple fold flat arrangement so it can easily fit into a shirt pocket without causing a bulge.
Opened out it forms a shelf with the back of the holder having a small lip folded over which sits on the window glass. The front panel stops the cup from moving.
To fold up the front panel folds down 90 degrees to fom an L shape. The base of the L folds up to form a flat package about 1 inch in depth and about 3 x 5' all up.

I found it in a boat supplies place for some ridiculously small about of money around $3.00 or so.

Since I had the camera out for the steering wheel shot, I wanted to show Doug B what my cupholder will do!
Rod

PS...That one is long gone Doug, we sure did enjoy it!

mmmmmmmmm, peaty
SteveP

Rod,
I thought that you preferred the caramel and sherry of a ripe Macallen, not the phenol of Islay. Now that's a taste that must be cultivated. Got a couple bottles of Lagavulin and Ardbeg sitting on the bar now, but the Glenrothes goes more quickly than than any of the others:) Glad that you enjoyed the malts. Looks like a great use for your "cup" holder.

Doug,
Is there such a thing as a bad single malt?
Yes, it was enjoyable.
Thanks buddy! ;)

Rod

(How's the car coming?)
Rod Nichols

Rod,
Regarding Single Malts...yes!! I don't recommend "Old Sheep Dip" as it's taste reflects it's name (but its cheap) nor the expensive Millenium bottling. Not worth the price.

Still at a stand still on the restoration project. Waylaid at the moment with totally renovating a bath upstairs and there's also the painter issue. Got another of those lined up to come look. These guys are just too busy.

Glad you enjoyed the malts, take care.

Rob,
My shop can produce them if the need was there for it. If I get at least 20 people who want them I'll run the project at cost for members. Seems simple and our cnc bender welder could do them in a short while.
Marcello

I didn't want one but I put this in for my wife..
I used a bit of old metal siding 6 x 10 approx and put it behind the carpet then I..( yea I know I spoil my wife ) bought the holder from Walmart for .98 cents
and screwed it to the metal.
She loves it !

Marcello...if you can find enough interest, feel free. I do not hold a copyright on the design and hope it is copied blatantly by other TR6 enthusiasts. If someone has an improvement on the design, I'd love to see it. I will make a few more in the near future and offer them here if you haven't made any. Too bad I didn't have a few made for Ancaster...is there another show/meet before Bronte? Shipping the things is more of a bother than making them.

Charlie...that's a brilliant solution!
Rob Brophy

Rob,
You could let me borrow yours or send me a detailed drawing and I will run a whole bunch.
Marcello

Marcello, I you make them I'll buy one. Thanx!
Ian.
Ian Marlatt

ok we got one.....anyone else?
