Hi don't know your name? The speedo and tack release from the back if you use a flash you will see the main cables to the center of the gages. The best way I have found is to release the finger nuts on each side of the back of these gages part way tilt them in and the 2 main gages will slide foreward. Gives a bit more room to undo the cable connectors. Next is your oil pressure gage. Its mechanical and you need to remove the coupler and oil line from the back. Keep a rag in your hand. Yep the glove box inards have to come out. Carefull its crudboard. Nope not a typo..:) Anyway I can go on forever and may be covering things you have got already. If you could be a bit more specific I will help. Bill |

Hi Could you give us more details, is it the wooden dash only you are removing or is it everything including the metal backing? I had to remove quite a bit of the dash last month to remove the heater so its quite fresh in my memory Ron |

DS Bill has got it. I am sure you have the "visible" das screws out but she will not budge. Like Bill said, it is the 2 main guages. They have 3 (each) thumb screws that hold the gauage in place against the metal backing dash and the wood dash. Impossible to pull the dash out unless you remove these thumb screws. Just removed my dash 2 weeks ago and know there is not a lot of room for the hand. Make absolutely sure you mark each wire as to where it came from. I have an excellent drawing with all the dash wires identified with numbers...I used these numbers to identify each wire. 2 months from now I know I will need this memory help:) I can fax it to you if you wish...e-mail me off line..."rjcassoc@lynx.org"... Bill interesting....I did not have to remove any part of the glove box other than the holding latch. Good luck Rick C |

Hi Rick Interesting you have 3 thumbscrews on each of the two large instruments, mine only had 2 and like you I don't need to remove the glove compartment to remove the wood its attached to the metal backing You do not need to disconnect the oil pressure gauge until the dash is out of position and it is easier to reach the coupling, but keep a rag handy as Bill says. I tied the two wires for each electrical gauge together with a tie on label noting connection details and did the same for the warning lights in the two large gauges and it is important to remember the wiring loom earths as well which attached to the speedo and rev counter mounting screws on mine Ron |

I used the high-tech approach of taking tons of digital pictures of each gauge and wiring. Reassembly was a breeze with that info in hand. Be sure to open your glove box door when removing the dash or she won't budge on that side either. Total time to de/re was about four hours including photos. Don from Jersey |

And last but not least, undo the trip odometer thingy from the bottom of the dash before trying to push the speedo forward, so's not to kink the little cable. Tony |

Hi Guys My reason for removing the glove box interior is its easy and it gives me whacks of room to get at everything behind the dash. Taking out I can spot any problems before they happen. When I reinstall I can properly position all the wires and see if any are crimped or rubbing. Bout 1.5 hrs. depending on wobbly pop breaks. Bill |

Ron You are absolutely correct. There are only 2 thumb screws. One at 0 MPH and one at 100 MPH ( same position on the tach....OOPS rev counter:). Please forgive. Tony, forgot that little animal...GEESSSEE 2 mistakes! Hay Bill, you are welcome to come on up and put my dash back in...I will allow for 2 wobbly pop breaks:) Besides, it will be good practice for you when you get ready to put yours back in:) Rick C |
