Triumph TR6 - Distributor - Need Help
Can anybody advise how to remove the vacuum retard unit from the late TR6 distributor. While moving my spare engine a buddy grabbed the dist for a handhold and snapped off the vacuum retard. Blowup pics at TRF and Moss show the unit being removed from the housing but I can get the remnants out of the bore. A new unit is available as a replacement but need to get the old one out. Thanks. Bob- Send it to Jeff and have him fix it. He will rebuild it and set it to specs. Better than new. |

Hi Bob, so how is the rebuild coming along?... almost there by the sounds of things. Have any pics? The vacuum retard dash pot is held in by the smallest of split pins.... just tap it out with a tiny punch and then you can remove the VR, or what ever is left of it. Cheers, Rob |

Don: The dizzy currently in my car is okay but I want to rebuild the spare from the new engine so I'm not looking at paying anybody to do it as I have the dizzy rebuild kit less the vacuum unit. Not a big job but thanks for the tip. Rob: Engine rebuild is on hold for now as we decided to wait out the summer rather than lose driving time. I want to detail under the bonnet rather than just drop the new engine in the "dirty" bay and that will take me much longer to do than a shop would take. The old engine still works fairly well and actually, my rear hubs were more of a problem than the engine anyway. Now that we have the puller and have disassembelled a spare hub successfully I will be ordering bearings and rebuilding both hubs currently on the car. Cheers, Bob 1976 |

Thanks Charlie. Never would a found it! Must be packed with crud. Looks like I'll be buying a new retard unit as none used available locally. See my post on rear hub bearings for a tip. Cheers, Bob 1976 |

Thanks RC, Some sites say only for such and such a year or commission #...the one from Vict Brit says nothing but it looks like the one for my pals 76 and yours to Bob ! Charlie |
Charlie B. |
Oh no....on closer look that Vict Brit one only covers 69 -71 It looks like the one for 74 - 76 is still N/A Maybe the VB one would still work...I'll give them a call and let you know Charlie |
Charlie B. |
Just called them...the girl was pleasant enough but did not know if it would fit any other years..they don't offer any tech help. Charlie |
