Triumph TR6 - Door Panels

Hi, After having taken off both door panels to enable replacement of my waist seals and door locks I am in the process of replacing the panels is there any easy way or tool available to replace the locking pin in each handle, without the 1 hour per handle pain in the ass that they are otherwise. I seem to remember a specific tool for this job but not sure of it's name.
Thanks, Keith

I think that tool is called long fingers a soft mallet (clean) and a pint of a nice pilsner.

The easiest way to deal with the pins is to get a piece of 1/8" dia. rod or nail about 3" or more in length. Measure about 9/16" from the end and cut into the rod about 1/3 of the dia. Chamfer the end to make it easier to start in the handle hole. Drive the rod into the hole and break it off. This method has been around almost as long as TR6's.

Thanks guys Don I tried 2 bottles of Stella Artois and it did not work maybe 6 next time, but seriously I like Berry's idea better, necessity and lack of beer for english car mechanics breeds invention sounds great I will let you know when I get it done.

There is a article on one of the sites that discribes Berry's idea but using a nail. I have been trying to find it but I can't remember where it is. It might be in Zimmer's page but it's down again. You would think with the think tank they have at MIT they would be able to keep a web site up!

I can't take credit for the idea, it appeared in Moss's news letter many years ago and also shows up on the 6 pack list.

That's where I saw that.

I used Berry's suggestion this afternoon, and it took me all of 15 minutes to install 3 handles not even enough time for the head on my beer to go down. Thanks again, Keith
