Triumph TR6 - Door/Window Quieting Tips
Anyone have any tricks or tips on reducing the noise one gets from your TRs doors and windows? I know these cars rattle some, in particular with age, but sharing any experience and info would be appreciated. I have installed new rubber window weather strips already. Shawn 74.5 |

Hi Shawn, It's kinda tricky but you can gently squeeze the channels that the glass travels in with pliers..I found that got rid of some of my rattles Charlie |

Shawn, If your windows are rattling as opposed to just the normal wind noise, consider replacing the channels not just squeezing them together. Lining the channel is felt that gets worn over time. I attempted to replace the felt, but alas it's not designed as a replacable part and the effort to do so is quickly overridden by the relatively low cost of new channels. There is also a buffer piece cushioning the window winding mechanism. If yours is missing, the window would rattle a LOT more, I would think. Good luck. db |

Shawn As Doug suggests, the lining in the channel does wear with time. I did replace mine versus buying new parts. I used the felt side of a Velcro strip and contact cemented them in. They are as good as new and a fraction of the cost of replacments. The gears in the window operating mechanism also loosen up and can rattle. The mechanism need to tightened. |

Shawn, See Bob's website in link below and select Windows Channel tab. Bob does good work and gives excellent instructions. http://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/ Mike '73 TR6 |

If you're talking about the rattling of the windows in the rolled down position you can simply move the windows up just a little bit so that the rubber outer seal just begins to contact the top of the glass. This pushes the glass against the inner felt strip and keeps them from rattling. Simple but effective lazy mans fix. That's how I do it. |

Adding some sound absorbing material to the inner door panels will also help decrease the noise in the cabin. The is not alter the original amount of noise but it will decrease the level of noise being reflected by the door skin. Pete. |

All, Thanks for the feedback. I will pull the door panel out and see what can be tweeked. The upper windows are very stable so I need to get inside and see what could be rattling. Shawn 74.5 ps: just returned fron vacationing in England today. I was surprised that I did not see any TR6s at all but did see two or three Spitfires within a 100 mile radius of London. Picked up a great British grill badge for the front of my TR at an antique shop. |
