Triumph TR6 - Engine conversion to Rover 3.5 V8
I am currently rebuilding a 1970 build TR6. Due to the fact that a friend offered me his old Range Rover with recently rebuild V8 engine for cheap money, I think about the opportunity to install the V8 engine in my TR6 instead of the original one. I would like to have some words with someone who is already experienced in converting a TR6 in such way. How high is the effort? Which gearbox to use? Which differential? What about the drive shafts? etc... I appreciate any comment regarding my thoughts of conversion. Thanks in advance, O.Fischer Germany |

O.K. Don , you amazed us again , not only are you a TR expert you speak German too. But can you pick a nice Cab to compliment a standing rib roast? Don K. |

Oliver, The site Don E.suggested will answer all your questions I used that site extensively to guide me through the process of converting my TR6 to a TRV8. Alot of work, yes but not much more than a complete restoration requires. If you don't care about the looks you could probably have something to drive in a couple of months. Be sure to check out all the cars on the site even if it is an MGB.There are good ideas on all of them and can easily be adapted. Good luck, you'll have a ball with finished car. |

Hi Christopher, thank you for your response. I couldnīt find any TR6 with a Rover 3.5 V8 on the recommended site. Is your conversion project one that uses a BOP/R engine? To be honest I have to say that donīt like to do all the discovering that eventually already has been made by someone else. Therefore I would like to gather as much information about TR6 with Rover V8 as possible before I start working. Kind Regards, Oliver Fischer |

Oliver, Mine is not a Rover V8 but a Ford 302 or 5.0. However I'm sure the Rover 3.5 is extensivly used by the MGB guys and mentioned often on that site. The TR's have a little more room in the engine bay than an MG so you're better off to begin with. The BOP/R engine block was the same size from the 2.7 up to the 3.5. I contacted many of the guys listed on that site and they were very helpful. However, some of what you do will be have to be done by the seat of your pants. But it's a lot of fun. |

Why mess with an old 302 , why not drop in the new ford V-8 with the over head cams. Is the block even smaller? Don K. |
DON KELLY |
Don, The old 302 is very simple. No computer, no injection, just tons of old style power. And they're alot cheaper than the newer ones but they have all the kick.It is the difference between apples from the orchard and apples from the store. One is grity the other is polished, clean and expensive. I'll take the hands on engine any day. |

sorry, I love new tech Don K. |
