Triumph TR6 - fan belt length with supercharger

Hi, I'm putting an Eaton supercharger on and need a belt for it. It's not a Moss motors kit, I think it's from that guy that makes kits in N.Y. I bought it from someone that didn't have instructions for it. If anyone knows what size I need or best guess it would sure save me a lot of trips to the parts store. I know I can try to measure with a rope but I've done that before and was way off on another project, and this one has a belt tensioner making it more difficult. Thanks in advance.

Best way is go to your parts store and tell them you need a belt of approx. size. This is where the rope comes in. Ask them if you can return it if it is the wrong size.
That's what I did for my alt. belt on the Wedge . Made 3 trips before I got it right.
If they don't let you I would take your bus. elsewhere.

Found my answer. 65" belt. Here is the patent on the supercharger conversion. Explains all. This is what I have exactly.

This should work better

Ended up with a 70" belt with a gm alternator. Only 3 trips to parts store. Now I can't get the motor started. Any ideas what the intitial settings should be on this HD8 SU carb? Can someone describe where the idle setting and mixture screws are? How many turns from bottom should they be set at? Thanks
Steve Hazelfeldt

Not a lot of super charger use on this forum. Think you might be on a trial an error on this one
Good luck. Also a good dyno with a O2 sensor would be a good thing on this.
DON KELLY

Thanks Don. I have an innovate wideband O2 sensor. Just need to get the darn thing going first. Not very familiar with this carb though. I did fill the fuel bowl with gas and put new spark plugs in. Checked timing at 10 BTDC. Kind of stuck now. Tempted to try some starter fluid.
Steve Hazelfeldt

Is this kind of what it looks like?

DON KELLY

Yes, that looks like the one.
Steve Hazelfeldt

An old local friend has that car. If you want I'll try to locate him and maybe he'll help you.
DON KELLY

The MG forum has an active "Supercharging" category - latest posting was today. They might be able to help with information on typical changes required following installation of a supercharger.

Thanks Don, yes that would be fantastic if you could contact your local friend. Maybe he could have some info on the initial carb settings.

Ok, got her running pretty good. For anyone that goes through this endevour, it takes about 8 turns out from bottom on the mixture screw. The mixture screw is the big one on the passenger side.

Took the car for a spin around the block, it runs pretty strong. I should have done this years ago.
