Triumph TR6 - Farewell

After years of participation I have decided to move on to a forum that has a bit more activity and enthusiasm.
I received a great deal of help over the years with my 5 year restoration project and for that I am grateful. At the same time I would like to think I may have also helped out a few people along the way.

On se retrouve de l'autre côté.

Unfortunately this one has gone extremely quite over the last couple of years. I can't really put my hands on why that is the case, but it seemed to accelerate with the site redesign and redesignation from http://www.british-cars.co.uk/triumph/ to http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=trbbs.

Despite that, there is still a lot of good archived information on this site so hopefully it will stay around so that information can continue to be available. Who knows, maybe things will even pick up on this site again in the future.

It is regrettable. This was my main source of help when I did my car from 2002 to 2005 and it was very active. Now as of late it has been pretty dead. I am not involved with any other forum and I check this one once a month or so now. I drive my car regularly but for the most part all seems to be well with it so I don't have much to post preferring to help those who do post. It would be interesting to get a polling of what happened to the main users over the past few years and why they stopped going here. Best of luck

Part of the decline may be the result of losing some of the prolific posters of the past. There used to be a few regulars who would always be quick with an answer, and to post something when it would otherwise be quiet. Like Michael's case, my TR is currently well sorted and in a prolonged enjoyment phase. I will also continue to check in occasionally to see if things pick up again.

Hello,

Sad to see this forum at idle like that.
A reason I come less often is the feeling there was a clique mentality at one time. Which differs from the old days....

Cheers,

Hi it's been a long time. Still playing with the old Brits though. My buddy bought my car with the promise I come with it. Then we found another? I come here once in a while just to see if any ones still around. Steve, Michael, Tony good to see your all here still. I left because of a metastasised lung tumor that became a brain tumor end of 2004. Told I had 6 months max to live? Top notch surgeons both Neuro and Thoracic for 6 months. I walked my youngest daughter down the aisle in BC June 5/o5 cancer free. Retired from business 5 years. Still welding and grinding and cursing rust and Dr.Lucas albeit much more carefully, 3m masks and the best of safety equipment 70 years old this year and I can still squat on a frame rail and stitch in a floor panel! I am a very blessed and lucky man.

Still having fun,
Bill

Wow!!! I haven't been on this site for awhile. It sure lost a lot of posters! Beginning in the late 1990's, I used to receive a lot of help from this site and used to post to help others. Where did all the posters go too?

I do visit every few months to see if there are signs of revival. It is good to hear from Bill. I'm so glad things are going well for you.

I have no idea where the old "usuals" have gone to exchange their news and views. I have visited a couple of other TR6 but didn't see any familiar names. Perhaps they have found lives.

My own TR6 is alive and well. I finally bit the bullet and installed an overdrive transmission. I found it right here in Regina and, although there was some drama involved, the final result is very satisfying. I decided I needed overdrive after taking the TR on a road trip last fall to the B.C. interior and while the four speed was great for blasting around the secondary highways, the long stretches of four lane that us flat landers have to cover to get anywhere were just too much. The TR was not happy at highway speeds.

I will be taking the TR to Vancouver in May for the ABFM. Lots of TR6's there every year, including some old haunters of this site. Counting the days.

I haven't checked in for a long while now. Didn't help when I switched to a new computer and lost the link with my password. Doesn't look like I have missed much - still low activity compared to the "old" days of the 2000's

Wow Bill

You've been through a lot. Glad to see you're still with us and healthy and enjoying life and the Brit cars.

Andy- no doubt Overdrive is sure worth it on the high speed highway runs. I don't think I would like to be without it on the 100 km/h and above highways. Enjoy.

I hope what Jean was getting at wasn't me but I had felt a similar vibe as well and found myself posting less and less. Another reason for less posts by me was the lack of people seeking help. My vehicle is done so I don't have a whole lot of questions to post but was hoping to help others where I could. It might just be that the number of people actually rebuilding has dropped because of lack of cars to work on or a passing fad as younger people don't have the same connection to the British cars as some of older ones.
