Triumph TR6 - Float chamber problem

While attempting to change out the float assembly on my '74 ZS carb the small uprights that support the float hinge pin snapped off at their base. It seems that the hinge supports were held in place by 2 small studs in the wall of the float assembly itself. Is there any solution to this!! Will a metal bonding epoxy work?

You'll have to find a glue that won't break down in gasoline...I'd try an automotive jobber ...I'm sure they would have a product not affected by fuel.
Or check out swap meets for an old dirty set of carbs that are going cheap..that part should be ok.

Bart,
JB Weld epoxy should do the trick - just follow the package directions. I've known guys that have repaired cast alloy oil pans and engine blocks with it (no, it wasn't me). Another plus is it holds up to higher temps than most epoxies and is pretty solvent resistant. You should be able to find it in decent auto parts stores and hardware stores.

Always consider the cost of a tow truck when you're doing a repair..

Bart--Personally I would swap out another carb body before I went the glue route.

Agree with Rick... will attempt to find another carb body to swap out. In the meantime have tried some epoxy as rec. by one of my mechanic friends in order to keep on the road. Have only been out once for about 1 hr. but so far has held up. Thanks for all the advice.

My first car was a Spitfire. At 16, I saw nothing wrong with using epoxy to 'fix' a carb problem. (A fuel line that had separated from the bottom of a carb.) I don't think that today the car would be worth the $325 I paid in 1975. But I was in love...

The 'repair' held until I sold it for parts!

It should buy you time to find a replacement, Bart. After a year or so, you won't think about it anymore. Every time we take the cars out, it's an adventure, even the sorted frame off restorations.
