Triumph TR6 - Ford used the same parts

Hi Folks,
I could never say by to my Triumph family. I am sure I will acquire another TR6 one day. How long can we survive separation anyway.

As promised I would visit on occasion saying hi, and letting all know how my Cobra build is going. Well amazingly the parts used to build an original Cobra was/is a mish mash of other Brit parts.....have a look.

There was much use of "commodity" parts and even major components/assemblies across the entire British motor car industry.

As an example, the Nash Metropolitan used the running engine, transmission and rear axle/diff units out of an MGA, but all of the hydraulic parts were the same as thos used on the early Healey 100-6s.

The Lotus Europa used a tail lamp assembly from the same family as that of the Series II and Series III E-types. The only difference was that the Europa lamp had a provision for a back up lamp built in to it. Since the Europa lens were perpetually on backorder, you would find Europas with E-Type lens fitted.

The list of commodity part interchanges can go on and on, but you get the idea. This is why I always snag copies of Lucas / Girling / Lockheed / Smiths / Jaeger / Borg & Beck / etc. catalogs whenever I find them. They are a great research tool for chasing what fits what.

I have a Windsor and a 427,....BUT!!! for it to ever happen and get on the road my significant other demanded I tone it down to a everyday driver. Therefor it has a 400hp 302.
Which I truly feel is the best engine for it based on weight ratio and all that stuff. It didn't and doesn't make sense why such a small 2000lb car needed over 550hp. history shows that all of them are hard to drive. They go everywhere but straight. The ones that did anything at the track were the 289 so my conclusion is the smaller blocks are true match...there now I feel better that my wife threatened me!!

it's been bored,...roller rockers..yadda yadda....a whole bunch of stuff. I acquired the engine from a guy who had it in a comp car. car crashed engine survived. I haven't dyno'd it but it is probably 390 something...

I would think you still will have a WEEEE problem holding the back end in a straight line:)

Cobra bite back if you let them but you need to respect them.

The nice guys on the Cobra thread all say 2 things.

1- Take the car to the track to truly understand it.
2- do not have a heavy foot mentality as a cruiser...

I need to change my ways..lol

Here is my thread (at the end) the veterans telling me just that. Remember, these guys are speed demons and I just crawled out from a TR6 and it's a huge transition for me.
