Triumph TR6 - glovebox finger pull

The glove box on my 71 TR6 is kind of hard to get open--the latch and everything works okay, but you are pushing in on the button to unlatch it, which makes it difficult to get open. The suppliers show a chrome finger pull for the glovebox, but I have never seen a picture of a TR6 with a chrome finger pull.

What kind of pull would be the best?

The pull is not original on a six and will require a minor mod to the door to fit. Suggest you simply replace the little rubber bumpers on the cubby opening. Then the door will spring open again.

I'm not pulling that finger, it might be loaded.....

The finger pull you mention was a TR4 item. As stated above, it will fit a TR6 with a little work. I like the idea of that finger pull, but if you are doing the VTR concours thing, it could cost you a point or two if you fit one.

Hi John
The spring of the glove compt light switch usually pushes mine open quite easily, might be worth trying a different switch.

Thanks! All good points. I like that the light switch spring should pop it open-I'll check that first!

By the way, I have some really dumb questions I am almost embarrassed to ask. But, without much mechanical knowledge, I want to learn how to work on this car and have to start somewhere! So, dumb questions will be posted regularly.

Hey John,

I do it all the time and haven't been abused yet (well, there was that one time that Steve, oh , and Rick got me a time or two, and...)

The spring from the glove box light switch is used to push the door open. My ,71 opens very easily and you have to push it closed with a little force to compress the spring. There should be a felt round pad on the door where the switch face contacts the door (protect the finish).
There is no such thing as a dumb question on this BBS...lets face it, we are all here to help each other and learn something in the process. Not to mention have fun.

John, I installed a finger pull with little effort because I liked it. Check the recent question about brakes and you will find that I clearly know less than you about these cars. I have found that people on the list are kind to fools like myself. Perhaps I provide entertainment.
Richard Porter

Nobody knows less than me! Well, maybe, but I am pretty far down on that list.

I installed a finger pull and like the results. My 6 is a daily driver and I keep the garage door opener in there so I'm constantly in and out of the box.

One concern I have with the whole spring switch design is that over time my glove box door has becomed deformed (top right corner pushed out) by the constant pressure of the spring switch. Personally I would rather look at my chrome finger pull than a deformed door.
