Triumph TR6 - Hard Top

Does anyone have a source for the rear rubber seal rear glass to hard top or ideas for alternate? Rimmer Brothers say do not have as does Roadster factory and Moss.
Thanks

Hi Dick

Is the old rubber still there? It can be cleaned up to look like new.

You might try soffseal.

They don't do exactly that.
Might be able to put you on to someone.

Don't know how that glass or plexi sits but many are just a double channel. Auto Windshield glass place may be your best bet.

There is an outside chance that Victoria British might have it. I pulled out a 2002 catalog of theirs, showing it as their part number 9-8106.

I have noticed that the supply of these types of parts seems to be tied to periodic production runs. If you call at the right time, everybody has them. Several years ago I was trying to get the rear window seal for the hardtop on my wife's Spitfire and there were none to be had at the usual suspects. I left a standing backorder with both Roadster and Victoria. I then met a guy that owned a shop specializing in TRs from Inverkeillor Scotland when he was in Fort Worth to pick a TR4 and ship it home. He tried to dig one up for me in the UK. Finally, about 10 months later, I received one from him, one from Roadster and one from Victoria in a two day period. I used one, sold one to another friend with a Spitfire. Somewhere boxed away with Spitfire spares, I still have that third one so if you know anyone that needs a 911040 late Spitfire hardtop rear window seal......

Thanks guys for the feed back. The original seal is in place and does not look that bad. I just am planning on painting the top and wanted to replace all seals so it looked like a factory job. Victoria lists the seal but is not in stock. Roadster lists the seal in its flyers but really is not in stock. I just left a standing order so it may show up sometime. Steve I have replaced all the brake parts to original and seems to be working well, thanks for the comments in prior thread.

Hi Dick

Before painting if rubbers removed use xylene on a rag and a bodyshop type razor vertical sort of like a brush to get rid of hard spots and sun damage. This works on almost all rubber even 70 years old and in my experience will fit better and look better than any new.

If the window is a plastic xylene will craze.

Use Isopropronal 99% or close from the drug store for the inside of channels. Xylene gives to much grip. Hard getting back together.

Use industrial solvent rubber gloves with the Xylene by the way. Hasn't killed me but probably not good for you.

Interesting idea Bill to save the old rubber if possible. Rear window is glass.
