Triumph TR6 - Headlight Upgrade?

Has anybody tried installing those brighter halogen headlights? (E.g 6024 XV or 6024 CB)

I guess my main concern is whether our wiring harnesses could handle the extra power draw? What was the wattage on the stock headlights?

I am not sure if I am doing the math right, but if I have a 12 volt system, and I think the bulbs say 60/65 watts, then is this about 65/12 = 5.5 amps on high beam?

Thanks, Ignatius

Installed Sylvania H6024XV last summer. For same power consumption as regular incandescent or regular halogen sealed beams I got fantastic bright white light about 30% stronger than normal halogen H6024. Great on dark twisty country roads.

Steven, Thanks for the redirect! I did not see that given my current lighting situation. :)

Claude, Is there any reason why you picked the XV's vs. the CB's? I am leaning towards the CB's just because they are different and may give me more visibility enhancing "contrast" from the rest of the herd. I.e. not only do I want to see better, I want others to see me (for safety reasons more than to look cool).

Ignatious- Being a resident of the northwest,if your car is a daily driver and with the damp and dark winters we have, make sure the lights are an advantage in the wet and don't put to much glare to the upcoming traffic. Watch what bulbs you mix with the lens.If the car is only a summer vehicle the headlights are not as important with the long summer hours. In that case a good halogen is fine.

Ignatius, I picked XV over CB ( cool blue ) in consideration for oncoming drivers.( glare ).Although the CB seem stronger, they produce same amount of light. Next reason : CB are not legal in Ontario due to their bluish appearance.

Don, Claude,

Good point! I suppose there is a safety hazard issue on having lights that are too bright. I did see the note some place (VTR?) about proper aiming. When I put these puppies in, I will test them on myself before subjecting them to oncoming traffic.
