Triumph TR6 - Help identify this soft top
Hi, I am actually a visitor from the other side! Errr, I mean from the MG part of the board. I need help identifying a soft top I have which turns out not to be for an MGB! I am trying to work out what it might be off. I picked it up very cheaply from someone who apparently bought it for a Spitfire but what they sent him didn't fit. They sent a replacement and said don't send back the original (I am in NZ so it would have been around the world). He thought it might be for a MGB and I got it off him. Superficially they are similar. Perhaps someone here might recognise it? It is very nice quality and well made so it is a shame I can't use it. Be good to sell it on to someone who can. I've attached a picture. Thanks! Simon ![]() |

It's got a double wrap connection for the cross over bars. The TR7/8 isn't like that and has been too long since I've seen the bottom of the 6's top to remember this. Haven't you asked about this in the past or was that on the BCF. Thought you where given an answer. Is it to big for the B? |
DON KELLY |
Hi Don. No, I just asked about it for the first time on the MGB forum the other day. I need to dig out my old, crappy B top and properly compare them I think. |
Simon Jansen |
dang, Then maybe your friend posted it because I've seen it before. |
DON KELLY |
Simon, I put a new top on my 6 this past spring and I think that it is a tr6 top. Maybe some other tops share these same features, but,the 2 wrap overs for the hoops, the 2 tabs at the front on the inside, the 2 tabs that hang down over the door and fender gap 3 snaps on either side of the window, if it's not a tr6 top, it dose a real good imitation. Rob, thanks! Will look those up and see if it matches. Don, I got the top probably about 3 years ago! It's taken me that long to get the car anywhere near ready to start thinking about tops and things. The PO could have posted it I guess but it would have been ages ago! Simon |

Naw, Hasn't been that long. Either someone else or DEJA VU |

Simon It really does look like for a TR6. The first pic shows the "buble" down the window back edge and agree with the 2 wrap overs for the 2 hoops. This is a top end top not you tipical vinyl one . This is a mohair (sp) top. Rick |

I don't think it's a Tr6 top. The rear cross over flap on a Tr6 has 5 snaps, I see 3 on this one and the front flap for a 6 has four holes, so the flap can be rivited to the cross bar. This one has 3 preinstalled snaps. Joe ![]() |

Simon Does it have a zipped rear window? What is the measurements between the snaps (center to center) below the side windows, from front to back. Also on the 6, the side window does not come to a point on the front lower edge, it has more of a rounded leading edge.

Hi Joe, the rear window is sewn in. I shall have to dig it out this weekend and make some measurements. Also I can compare it to my original MGB vinyl hood too. It came with a bag containing more snaps so I am not sure if the three under the rear quarter windows were pre-installed or the previous owner started installing them then discovered it wasn't the right top! I haven't had a chance to measure the top or do a comparison to the old MGB top yet but I did get an email from Prestige Auto Trim who I sent my pictures to in the hope they could tell me what it is. They say it is a TR6 top. They didn't say if it was one of theirs or not though! Simon |

i like that tan interior lining...are you selling it? bob |
Bob Craske |
Hi Bob, I am selling it. It's isn't much use to me with an MGB! I have no idea how much shipping to Canada from NZ would be though. Fairly pricey I imagine. You can send me an email if you like. Simon |

I am fairly certain that is a later model Spitfire top. |
