Triumph TR6 - Help!! No Brakes!!

Gentlemen I am in need of your assistance. I just went to take my TR out from winter storage and guess what NO BRAKES!! The peddle goes to the floor, and there is no fluid in the brake reservoir. I have only limited braking ability, mainly the hand brake. When I moved the car, I did not see a puddle of fluid on the floor. My question is of two parts, do you think it is a broken brake line and what type of brake fluid should I put in. Also, by filling up the reservoir, will I have enough brakes to get me about 20km/12miles to my garage or should I arrange a tow truck.

Your input will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Did you check INSIDE the car underneath the brake pedal? Sounds like the rear of the master cylinder is leaking, and the fluid went into the servo. That's a very common leak point. Once the base of the servo is statically "full" the fluid will leak on the carpet. Check it out.

If that's the case filling the resevoir might give you back a pedal "feel", though it's not likely to make it drivable unless you're really careful and pumping often. I'd hate to driive one 12 miles, but it can be done. It would be best to try and bleed it first.

Ted,
I'd have to agree with Brent, if there is no puddle then most likely there is a pool inside the servo/ booster and will not spill over into the foot well
until full. If your mechanicly inclined you can rebuild the master cylnder or replace it entirely,
then bleed the system and away you go.
If not have it towed to a garage the knows british
cars. You'll have alot less chance of them screwing
it up.

Thank you for your help, I think I'll get it towed in the morning.

Just as a matter of interest.
Is there a way to clean the servo-booster and will the break fluid cause any damage to the diaphram

Well, I took a look at the INSIDE driverside at the floor mat and under floor mat, no oil. So I've had it towed (at a hansom price) and am awaiting the mechanic's news.
