Triumph TR6 - How the hell..

can this happen. So excited to have every last piece to get the car back on the road to find there is (at least) a 1/8" runout on the pinion flange of the diff, yes, it wobbles significantly. I have done nothing (ie, never applied any force) to cause this so have to conclude it was like this before with no ill effects. UJs will take up the motion but what about balance and oil sealing ability?? Mystified! Anyone else ever seen this. And, what is actually bent - whole diff turns smoothly and easily. Peter

I know it sounds dump, but, are you sure you got it back togrther right. Did you do both side? Are both sides bad?

Talking about the pinion flange here - only one of those - and it slides on a spline - can't do it wrong. Closer inspection shows this to be a mis-made part from the getgo. Shaft is straight but spline was never cut sguare to the flange.
Wish I had'nt noticed it - I guess it's always been that way but now it worries me. Peter

I had the seal replaced on teh pinion flange lately and the damn thing leaks worse than ever. Did you manage to find appropriate seals? Apparently the Moss Motors ones are worth ...
Bryn

Yes Bryn.I used a Moss seal and it leaked sitting on the floor. The seal you want is Napa 15207. Also, you MUST use a sealent ( I use Loctite anearobic - excellent) on both sides of washer and on threads, otherwise oil will leak past the metal to metal contact of flange to shaft, nut to flange, etc. Mine is bone dry now. Peter

Your findings of wobble? Are the flange bolts holes OK. I looked at mine and the cast is not great but the bolt holes are true turning.
