Triumph TR6 - hub removal
I have the front hub, with brake disc attached, removed from my 1970 TR6. I am trying to seperate the two. I removed the four bolts and gave it a few whacks, but it seems to be stuck fast. Am I missing something? or has anyone else had this problem? Also, how does one remove the inner bearing shield from the hub. It seems to be pressed in, and holds the inner bearing in place. Has anyone performed this operation recently? Thanx for input DS 70 TR6 68 MGB-GT 75 Midget |

Dennis They must be rusted together, it's only the four bolts that hold the disc on, try a bigger hammer. Ron |

Dennis There are a couple of notches (180° apart) on the inner casting of the hub - you can feel them with your fingers running around the inside of the bearing rim. Put an old screwdriver through the centre of the opposite bearing and firmly tap the shell out. You will need to tap them alternately. Just press fit the new shells in (gentle hammer!) I hope the lack of response is not because you mentioned your other LBC's!! R |

gentlemen, thanx for the tips! R. Algie, I always like to check before employing the "larger hammer" method. But with the help of a wide chisel and the heavy hammer, they're apart. Roger, I didn't realize tapping on the bearing race from inside would pop out the bearing shield, but it worked like a charm. Funny, that part, the shield, is pictured in the bently shop manual but not pictured or listed as a replacement part in any of the big part catalogs? A follow up question, if you were replacing bearings, do you normally replace the bearing race also? DS P.S. as far as mentioning other owned LBC's, I got that from MG BB on the other side. I always found it interesting to know what other people around the globe are driving and working on. |

Dennis- Congrats on seperation. I always change bearings and race together. Don |

Dennis-I think that what you are calling a bearing shield is actually part of the quaint 2 part seal used by Triumph, the other part being the felt ring that usually stays on the axle. Both parts should be included in a bearing kit or the individual seal. It maybe that current seals have been replaced by the usual 1 piece type, as it has been a long time since I have replaced one. BTP- I guess I'll find out. I need to replace bearings on both sides. Where would one find the race for the hubs? Again, I don't see them listed as an item in the catalogs. DS |

Dennis When you order the bearings, they come together as an assembly (bearing and race). |
