Triumph TR6 - Installing door handle on 76 TR6

Just purchased a 1976 TR 6 and have to replace the interior door handle, can some one help me, as I am new to this. Thanks

Check the archives. Simple task IF you follow the instructions to depress the spring and remove the pin.

JL, push the door card in to expose the shaft behind the handle and you should see a small hole with a "pin" in it...simply use a punch and a light tap to free the pin then the handle should come free.

He is asking for help installing the handle and everyone is giving him instructions for removal.

J. what part do you need.
Removal or install.
Totally different and unequally diabolical

Don, he has to take the old one off before he can replace it!!

What I'm saying is.

It's already off and he can't get it back on, which IS the common problem

Leave off the spring, is one way.

My installation procedure is as follows

Recruit my wife.

Make sure pin hole in the shaft in the door is horizontal so you are coming at it from the side.

Grab a pair of needle nose vise grips.

Place pin in vise grips so long end is sticking out.

Place handle on shaft

Have wife press firmly on door panel around where door handle goes.

While she is pressing, push handle so holes line up with shaft holes.

Gently guide pin in.

Curse alot when the pin still falls to the ground.

After 3- 100 tries it goes in.

Ensure pin is in a good amount. Release the vise grips.

Push pin in all the way with a pin punch or the vise grips.

Taa Daa.

Oh ya don't forget to let wife know to release the pressure once all of the above is done.

Good luck JL.

I think the most painless way to replace the pin is to get a piece of 1/8" dia. rod (even a 16d nail will), chamfer one end, measure&mark 5/8"length,cut it about 1/2 way through, insert in the pin hole and break off. This method was been around for many years and is probably in the archieves.

Sounds too easy Berry

Where's the sense of adventure?

Michael-You are right,it deprives us of a bonding moment with our cars. Have you ever wondered why we devote a large amount of our time&treasure to an obsolete (probably even when it was new)car that will most likely always be a work in progress? I dunno. Maybe it is because it needs us.
