Triumph TR6 - Installing new seat foam

I just bought new seat foam and covers from TRF,took six weeks to show, but anyway.I tore down my drivers seat first, then opened the package marked LH foam, but it didn't fit,the RH foam did! So my question is{and no my seats are installed correctly}should I then assume the seat covers will also be opposite? The seat covers look very similar can't tell one from the other.I was born and raised in England and left was left, and right was right.

While I agree that left is left and right is right on both sides of the Atlantic, I feel compelled to ask what may seem to be a bit of a silly question, but it is important in establishing the frame of reference.

When you call a side of the car left or right is your frame of reference from the rear of the car looking forward?
Steve Pike

I know I said I was working on the drivers seat, and I live in the USA,so one would assume that would be the left side.I work on cars for a living, left side is drivers side in this country.

I've just finished installing TRF seat covers and foams and all were labeled correctly. The LH foam and the LH seat cover both went on the driver side seat correctly.

My seat covers were marked inside the covers themselves in pen and I assume that these were done when the covers were made. It's possible the foams were mislabeled when they were packaged.

I meant no offense by my question. It was even prefaced with "may seem to be a bit of a silly question."

I also picked on the fact that you said that you "born and raised in England" so for all I knew, you might be an ex-pat that brought a RHD car over here. I know of a couple of RHD TR-6s in this area.

Since I do not know you or had no idea as to your background other than "born and raised in England" and that you were somewhere in Louisiana, a question to verify the frame of reference did not strike me as an unreasonable query.

Given the additional information, I would say that Martin probably has it pegged as being mislabled. Hopefully, the other package will be mislabled as to side, but be the correct year(s) seat configuration as well. Other wise, you get to go through the return hassle.

Steve,I'm sorry if my reply seemed rough,I've been fighting with this seat cover for a couple of evenings,I need my seat so I can drive the car,we have sunny 70's right now.It seems the foam was mislabeled, the seat covers have right and left written inside, and they appear to be right.Anybody else had trouble getting the seat back covers installed?I have it sitting in the sun right now to get more pliable, cannot get the side brackets to reach. Thanks, and again Steve,my apologies.David

Hi David,

I fought with my seat back covers for quite a while so I share your pain. I ended up doing the side with the seat back adjuster first as it requires more slack to feed the shaft through the hole you have to cut in the side. Then I installed the headrest shaft to keep the top part of the back pulled in place.

I did what you did and let it get as warm as possible in the sun. Then I took a loop of thin strong cord and hooked it around the side bracket on the other side and pulled on that until I finally could get it to hook in place. Then I just pulled the cord out. A second pair of hands (thanks, wife!) also helped.

Good luck and keep persevering!

I recall when I did mine that it was suggested to use a little plastic food wrap and cover the head rest and apply a little baby powder and the covers will slide on a lot easier. If I recall correctly, when I took the seats apart, there was plastic over the head rest.

It appears someone in shipping some where does not know left from right:)

Good day all (-2deg)

I found a great pair of seats from a 69 Question is will they fit the 74?

Gord

I believe that the seats from any year of TR6 should fit any other year. Obvious exception would be the '71 seats, which only fit '71 cars, since they are superior in every way (right, Rick?)

The only difference in the seats is the shape... with/without head rest and the material pattern. The attachment points to the car are identical. The L&R slider brackets are identical for all years.
