Triumph TR6 - J typr overdrive tranny in 71 frame
So any recomendations for mounting the J type overdrive in a 71 frame. I know there is a difference in the mounting points between the A type and J type transmissions. Any advice about what has worked. Any experience with a adaptor plate sold by Rimmer Bros? Thanks |

If you don't mind me asking. Why a J and not an A? |

The Buckeye tech articles are a wealth of info on ODs and other subjects. There is one on adapting the J type to the earlier frame, although the rubber mounts used are a little cheesy. It is the last article under the J type section. http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/technical.htm Don-I am guessing that J types are much easier to find than A types. Berry |

I think Berry has it right on the availability issue. As for the adapter mount kit from Rimmer, I have no direct experience with one, but looking at it, it seems to have all the right bits that would be needed. |

A's are available. Specially if you have a J to trade |

Lot more J out there robbed from Volvos and Triumph sedans. The Volvo j types are cheap, but the cost of the od unit is just the tip of the iceberg. Main shaft, adapter housing, speedo gears, and other misc., plus the possibility that the od unit may need rebuilding pales the original cost of the unit. Berry |

this is a j unit out of 73@ 800 bucks I figure it is an okay deal and the seller confirms it was inspected. I know it is always a crap shoot but it may well be the I trade for an a type drive. It would just be nice to have it in the garage. I don't see a lot of these for sale locally. |

At $8bill I would say it will need a rebuild I "inspect" all my bad parts before I get rid of them ;) |
