Triumph TR6 - Lamborghini Red

Wanted to share some pics. These are the first time she has moved under her own power after 29 years and the past five yrs of restore. The wheels are Nissan 280 zx turbo.

You should be proud! Send more links as she gets completed. Are the wheels 15"? They really are a nice change from the Panasport look usually seen. Also looking forward to the stories of sorting any glitches after a few miles. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice, I had always thought those wheels would look good on a TR6 and have casually looked for some off and on at the "right" price. Having driven one of those 280ZX Turbos for a while in the early to mid 80s, they are 15", seem to recall 6" width with offset about the same as the Panasports. The standard 280ZX wheel was a 14", so you've got to go Turbo if you want to 15 inchers. That particular style was on the 1981s only in the US market, don't know if they used for additional years for other markets. The 82 up 280ZX Turbo wheel was an offset and grooved four spoke job that I never thought looked as good.

I've also been casually looking for some of the old style Cosmic wheels from the 60s/early 70s at the "right" price. I have a set but one wheel is damaged beyond repair.

Gentlemen, Thanks for the nice comments. Have not taken her for a ride down the street yet. Will need an alignment, as everything is still loose underneath.
SteveP, just saw a set of these wheels go on e-bay Sunday for little over 150. They are 15"x6" with a 4" backspace, stock rims have 3 1/2" backspace. Finding lug nuts is a bit of a problem, as Nissan is metric and Tr is 7/16, and the shank size is different. Most mag wheel lugs are .685 and Nissan is .747. The shank is what center the wheel to the hub, so you can see we have a problem in Rivercity. The closes I could find to that size is the stock Tr lug nuts, which measure .811. I'm going to have the Tr lugs machined down, remove the plactic washer and use the steel washer from the Z lugs. I will keep you posted if this works. The other option is to change the studs,and that didn't look like a good option.

Also wanted to add the tires are Yokohama AVID TRZ 205/70/15. Great looking tire with a 700 treadwear rating. A lot of tire for the price. Will post later, with feedback on these.

If the TR lug nuts are machined down, you will lose that chrome plating that helps provide a decent level of corrosion protection for them and for the wheels too. Given what you have said regarding the shoulder diameter of the Nissan vs, the "standard" aftermaket wheel nuts, my first thought would be to look at bushing the wheel to use the shouldered aftermarket wheel nuts.

The key if going the bushed route would be two fold, one to provide some protection to minimize the chances of galvanic corrosion. Install the bushings using wet chromated primer or some type of non-acidic sealant, the other to ensure that the bushing material would have sufficient bearing strength for the application.

My seats are being recovered as we speak. Should be ready end next week.(April 27)

I tried calling your contact in Dundas and left 2 mesages. No return call so I gave up on him. I am not too excited with the total bill (foam, leather hides and labour)so I hope they look good when they are done. Being done by a guy in Brantford near where I work.

If I am happy I will post pictures. If I am not, I will post recommendations.

I may have found my solution that will save the Tr lug nuts for another day. Jegs.com carries Weld Racing lug nuts and they have a lug (601-1914) which measures 1.750" long x .745" dia. shank, 7/16 RH thread with washer. So all I have to do is cut 1 1/4" off the shank length and they should be good to go.I'll keep you posted with the results.
