Triumph TR6 - Louvres

Though I hesitate to ask this question, knowing the chuckles it'll generate about being too thick in the thin of things, nonetheless here goes...when examining the dash heater/air/whatever vent or "louvres" to clean and polish them for reinstallation, I note that they are constructed with two felt strips glued at two different locations within the "ball" socket to permit controlled adjustment of the "ball". My felt has come unglued and is need of replacement BUT I can't get the damn thing open to get the ball out. It appears that the fixture was heat welded or glued together (plastic) and is not intended to be disassembled, meaning either replace the assemblage with new ones or find servicable used ones. Not willing to give up on something that should be reparable, anyone have any ideas about how to successfully diassemble these items and replace the felt? I'm at the point of taking my dremel cutting wheel to the thing and regluing afterwards. Or should I just give up and purchase new ones from Rimmer Bros?? Constructive comments/criticisms welcome here...hell even casual observations or non-constructive input will be considered.

You might have a problem getting new ones, I had the same problem with the felts on a couple of mine a few years ago and no-one in the UK had new ones, ended up with a good SH set from E-bay. Don't think they were ever meant to come apart other than brute force.
I think the early TR6 had metal units which might be repairable??

Ron,
Rimmer Bros lists part numbers for both the early metal and later plastic, but they invited an inquery regarding availability and price, at least on the plastic ones. I have not heard back from them yet, probably due to the time differential. Wonder if the metal ones are a direct fit and if they're serviceable? If I had at least one other one, I'd experiment to discover an effective repair procedure. I think that I can sever the front from the rest of the body, clean and replace the felt strips and then glue the front back on. That's probably not the original intended procedure, but in the absence of a maintenance detail, it ought to work.

Doug- If you figure it out let me know. Mine are sitting on my window sill waiting to be installed again.

So I'm not the only one with a set out of the car and an owner looking perplexed?
