Triumph TR6 - luggage rack

Hello all,
What is the general consensus regarding the luggage racks as far as:
1) flat as the one Moss offers (Amco style 34 x 25 inches) or,
2) the curved one with flat vertical straps?
The latest one being about 36 x 18 inches.
Wasn't the flat one the stock one?

My 2.25 cents worth. The TR6 looks better without a rack unless you are talking about that rack in the calender.

rick, i hope you don't mind I sent you two pics of the two different racks (not the twins on the calendar, hahaha) to your e-mail.

I think that the luggage rack was not OE equipment but a dealer option in NA. Have not received the pics. Do not forget you need to edit my e-mail address....remove "at" and ".dot"

Abner,
I looked into this several years ago. The 5 spoke AMCO rack was a dealer option in NA and was used up until 1975. The curved rack, as far as I know, did not become available until 75/76. There is often a patent # inside the mounting ends of the original curved rack. The patent, I recal did not issue until 1976. If you have an early TR6 you may want to consider an AMCO. Later TR6s could use either.

I actually like the look of the racks and have an original AMCO on my early 74.

Good luck,Bob

All luggage racks fitted to TR6s were aftermarket parts. Some dealers used the BL accessories sold under HAC part number series, others used AMCO, some kept both on hand, sometimes the AMCO item and the HAC item were the same and sometimes they were not. This is a case where they were not. What wound up on the car was a function of the dealer that either sold and installed it or what the owner did.

The curved luggage rack was the BL rack and could be used on both the TR6 and 71 on Spitfires, Stag could have probably used it too, but I don't ever recall seeing a Stag with a luggage rack. This rack is more commonly seen on later cars than early ones.

My 71 had one of the BL luggage rack on it, but it was removed and holes patched when we were doing some other work, same with my wife's Spitfire. I think the AMCO rack is the better looking and more practical of the two but, I think the cars look much better without a luggage rack.
