Triumph TR6 - Miata Seat Swap Question
Hi everyone, It seems like Miata seats are the replacement of choice for TR6 seats. Does anyone happen to know if there is a particular year Miata that works well with a TR6, or more importantly, a year to stay away from? Thanks! -Bill. |

Bill, vistit the MG site on this BBs and click on the MG V8 site, there is a thread running right now answering your question. |

Bill I've got the early Mazda seats with the fixed headrests with the speakers in them, they are fitted to the existing floor mounting by a homemade 1/4" plate adapter welded to the existing Mazda runners. It is the single best improvement I've made to the car, the seats are far more comfortable and supportive and the cloth cover is much nicer in hot weather. Only downside and it probably won't bother you much in California is if they get wet, they soak up water like blotting paper. Ron |

Hi Folks, Are the seat cushions on the Miata seats taller than the Tr6 ones? What I'm trying to ask is - will the Miata seats make me sit up higher in the car? I'm 6ft 2in & find that the top of my head lines up with the top of the windshield. (assuming that my head isn't some big crazy size!?!!?) I'm fearful that the Miata seat will raise my seating position so I'll be scraping bugs off my forehead after a spin. Hopeing my head is normal in PEI, Aivars Berzins |

Aivars Mine sit slightly lower than the original seats but you have to make sure whatever adapter plate you use doesn't raise them too high. I'm 6ft and the top of my head is well below the top of the screen frame. Ron |

Gents! Rice Burner seats in a TR??? Sheeesh! Jeez Algie - you being a Brit and all; how could you do that? Is mere comfort worth your motoring heritage? Aivars - the Miata seats may not make you sit higher but how you gonna feel, man? Bob |
A.R. Evans |
probably very comfortable |

Bob When your back has been abused for as many years as mine, comfort is much more important than heritage, anyway four bolts per seat and the old sticky black plastic ones are in for the carshow! Ron |

Sheeesh! is right... next thing you know someone is going to try a swap and put a w*nkle under the hood... sorry guys, just trying to stir the pot. |

But, conformity is the cradle of boredom!?!?! Aivars |

A.R., Who are you beening faithful to? Motoring heritage? I love my Triumph but the company that made it was just trying to make a profit and nothing else. Just like every other company in the world. I'm positive they employed many people who cared very much about what they did and those people did some great work. But some corners were cut and if we want to correct those shortfalls why is that a problem? As long as there is one perfect production Triumph sitting some where in a museum I won't feel bad about making my TR perform or feel comfortable. |

Hey Rick, Did you say w?nkle under the bonnet? I just happen to know of just such a thing, in a MGB. Right here in Ontariariooo. Its blasphemy I tell you... Just kidding if its yours, do with it as you may. |
B.R. Horne |
Brian Yup I meant WaNKLE.... see still can not get it right...darn fingers. HUM...only in Canada eh? So if a TR6 with a few extra ponies under the bonnet is a TRV8 what do you call an MGB with a w*nkle....? Rick C |

BTW Rick W*nkle is W*nkel. LOL |
B.R. Horne |
That w*ankel or w*ankle (whatever) was probably put there by a W*nker, eh? Rod |

Brian It appears not only can I not tipe correctly, but I also don't spell so good....sorry Felix. I should have just called it a rotary. GEE Rod.... thanks for the kind comment about a canuck....EH! Gotta agree, not something I would have done. Rick C Billhound, sorry about your thread taking a left turn. |
Rick Crawford |
Gents: Whew! Some hot comments on that one. OK it's your TR so do whatever you want with it. I was just kidding guys, honest. And yeah, Billhound, your thread did take a hairpin - sorry about that. My neighbor had a Miata - went like stink & outhandled my TR6 something fierce so I guess I'm just sensitive about Miata bits in a TR6 - he'd think it's funny. David B - you're a man of few words but succinct - too shay as they say in La Belle Province - that's Kay Beck for our American brothers. Bob |

Bob come one Bob, we have to have a little fun with the guys south of the 49th. The stupid thing about knocking a Miata is that..if you think about it is the only modern day version of a 2 seater sports car that the average Joe can afford and be driving around in. Too bad it has the stigma of being a "girls" car. Then there is us guys in our mans car! Even after saying that..when I go by a Miata I know one thing for sure... I will get more "thumbs up" and "nice car" than he will EVER get. Rick C |
