Triumph TR6 - More Light on the Subject

I added new light to my shop. Replaced a 2 tube 4' flouresent with a 12" X 12" metal Halide. What an improvement. It is situated right above the front cockpit area. I used a 100 watt fixture. I highly recommend it.

Although I am still finishing out the interior of the garage I recently built, I've got one 4-bulb x 4 foot flourescent ceiling lamp for every 200 square feet (8 sets of lamps or 1600 square feet for the whole garage). With the walls painted a brilliant white and a white ceiling (insulation and ceiling currently being installed). I've got plenty of light, but still seem to need to use a drop light under the hood, etc., and, of course, ceiling lights don't help at all when the car is on the four-post automotive lift.

I've used 4 light switches (one for each quadrant of the garage) so I can selectively light the garage for "mood" (which is to actually say, I can turn off a pair of lights if they provide glare on the wall mounted television!!! :-)

Sounds good...but before I consider a change, does the halide lighting get hot, i have few windows in the garage and while better light would be appreciated, baking like a clam wouldnt.

thanks

In my 7oo feet of garage I had 8 4' 2 tube fl. lights operated by 3 switches. I replaced the one immediatly over the center of the car and improved the light by 100 percent (100 watt bulb) . The ceiling is at 9' and I don't notice the heat, but then again it is still winter,(mild as it may be) but they do get hot and the fixture is a heavy duty one. The plastic lens is pretty thick. Come on over and I'll show you.(Rick)

YA..YA... you just want me to help install that new tan interiour...I will work on that. Would be good to have a few wobble pops again with you and Ignatius.

I have just a whole bunch of overhead 2x florescents. My favorite light is my little yellow halogen unit. The overheads do little when under the car. It pumps out 350 Watts and keeps my head warm during the winter months....the bald spot appreciates it:)

PS Don...will not help you put those _ _ _ _ _ seats in though..another OOUCH!
