Triumph TR6 - Need Photo Help.

Trying to get my interior ventilation hoses put back in after a 8+ years out. Can someone take a picture of the bracket that holds the duct that points at your feet. Do the passenger side as I imagine that might be the easiest to see.I can't for the life of me figure how that connects to the dash facia.
DON KELLY

Don
You are correct lad it is kinda funky how it goes back together. Just think backwards. The bracket mounts so that the actual air outlet faces the front of the car. NOT down at your feet. The bracket attaches to the lower crash pad area and all I can say is faces the front of the car.

Weird you should mention this. I was at a club function in a parking lot and a "new" TR6 owner was asking about the vent "eye-balls" and how to adjust them and how do I (Him) get more air down at the feet. I told him to adjust or open the foot well vents. He did not know they existed( A TRUE STORY).

I remember using the vents once....... got caught in a shower of rain at night and had to put the top up! As I recall, the dash vents were very useful for demisting the side windows.

Had to run outside and take this pic though.......it's been Winter here for nearly three weeks and it's time to take the baby for a spin...

Roger H

...sorry Don - wrong picture!!!

Hope this helps although it is a bit out of focus.

Roger H

Roger - On you photo does the hose that goes to the floor vent connect on the outer side of the splitter?
DON KELLY

Don - I have the hose nearest the camera to the floor vent, not that I'm sure it makes much difference. The other goes to the dash vent. The floor vent hose is a tight 180° bend using the flexi. If your flexi is brittle it may not make it! it's going to be tight either way, then you have to put the glove box in.......

I was able to source additional ones locally as they were also used in the more common saloon range of Triumphs (and we have plenty of them here). If you run short, drop me a PM.

Cheers
Roger H

Is it the same on the drivers side. I am having problems getting it to fit and still have room for the wiper switch.
Is yours RHD?
DON KELLY

#1 0f 3 pictures. Note on this image, the vents are facing foward. I've found that this position is much more pleasing on cold days and easier to turn on or off. I'm not sure if your knob is mounted in your center plinth. Mine is and the position are as follows:
1) Whether the knob is pushed or pulled in, the two
vents on the dash and the 2 vents under the dash
should always have air blowing.
2) When you pull the knob out, the flapper on the
heater box flips to a position that allows the
window vents to get air. When it is pushed in,
you should only get air to the 4 vents.

#2 of 3. This is the driver's side. As you can see, to give it a cleaner look, you need to stuff it in there. I would HIGHLY SUGGEST, you make sure all your electrical is done!!! If not, you'll be getting a lot of practice on installing and removing you vent ducts!!

benji

#3 of 3. This is the passenger side. Note the black metal bar holds the vent duct up. It uses 2 screws to the dash and one screw goes up into the battery box. Look at the metal y adapter. One side goes to the foot well vent, the other goes to the front dashboard vent. The window defrost vents are not seen in the photos because they are mounted directly to the heater box.

benji

Opps!! I take it back. If you look at photo #2 and #3. The window defrost vents can be seen in the photos. Look above the tweeters. Remember, these are mounted directly to the heater box and the flapper on the heater box allows air to the defrost vents or not.
benji

Hey Benji, long time no speak. Do you ever hit your knees on the reversed vents. Then I don't remember you as tall.
DON KELLY

Sorry Don - I forgot that Triumph made LHD's as well!!

Benji's installation has caused me to doubt my own now, but I'll soon post a better pic of the Drivers's side then reflect the image!!
Roger H

Roger,
Your installation is correct. On cold days, I usually wear warm socks and trousers. Therefore, I have no reason to point the vents at my feet.
Don,
You'll just have to experiment with the vents or...I'll probably see you at one of the car shows this year and you can surely sit in my car.
benji

Benji-
It's going to be a hot one. I hope you got plans for the 6 the next couple of days.
DON KELLY

Don - this might help. I have the later round hole type light switch which is a bit bulkier than the earlier rectangular ones.

The hose splitter is hard up against the bulkhead panel and is held by the body tabs.

It looks a bit of a mess due to the elec fan switch/light which I have hung just under the dash crash-pad.

Couldn't reflect the photo but you get the idea.

Cheers

Roger H

Roger how come so many wires to the fan switch?
DON KELLY

Don - The fan is controlled via relay and a thermostat in the bottom of the radiator but has a manual over-ride switch. There is also a light showing when the fan is operating.

Seems like a lot of wires but I just followed the instructions.

photo = drivers view!

Roger H

Roger- In Dan's Powerblock to my switch there are 4 wires 2 of the same for auto and "on", light and ground. Then of course it comes from a relay. So I guess it's not too much different.
DON KELLY

Don - there are 4 wires to the switch and 2 to the light next to it. I'm pretty sure I used this link as the basis for my selection, even getting the Jegs Permacool fan from the US.

It has been faultless with the exception of a meltdown of the cheap fuse holder - don't skimp on this as it draws a fair current and while the fuse was OK, the rubbish casing caused a small drama.

Your dash is looking good btw.

Cheers
Roger H

Roger - Here is my fuse holder.

DON KELLY

Blimey! - and I thought it was just a rumour that everything is bigger in the 'States.....

Looks great Don - should be be just about bullet-proof. Nice to see some decent gauge wiring as well.
Roger H

Roger- Wish I could take credit for it. It's Dan Masters Powerblock.
